The 2 Ghosts n' Goblins games are pretty good, they don't look too retro, but they play in the classic style.

Lords of Midnight. A very nice iOS version of the game with various enhancements.
  • I've only played the Android version of these but should be identical on iphone:

Lords of Midnight & Doomdark's Revenge - obviously!

Game Dev Story - manage your own software house.

Out There - Not really retro but it's a great mix of choose your own adventure and resource management.

Another vote here for LOM. It really is excellent!

I recently bought the 25th anniversary version of Another World and, while it is a little tricky to control, it is a brilliant update. Still a great game.

If you're after Speccy stuff, Spectaculator is probably the best Speccy emulator available for iOS.

There are some classic point-and-click adventures too which are all a joy to play on the iPhone - Broken Sword 1 & 2, Monkey Island 1 & 2, to name but a few.

Old school FPSs are a bit hit and miss (no pun intended) though - it all depends on how well you can use the finicky controls. I have Duke Nukem 3D, and I think it plays fine, but there are lots of people who seem convinced that it's unplayable.

Personally, I would love to see Theme Hospital released for iOS. Sure, there are similar games already, but they're either "freemium" games where you have to spend real money to get anywhere, or they're just not very good.
