Looking for a new font for my game

edited April 2014 in Development
I?m using a font in my new game that I am reusing from a previous game. It could do with being changed but drawing a new font is not high on my fun list. Does anyone know of a website or repository that hosts free spectrum fonts? I am only after upper case letters and numbers 0 to 9.

I'll do one if you like. Been a while since I designed a font. Just point out a style you like and I'll have a bash at it, assuming you mean 8x8 pixels. Make it a competition if you like, or a collaborative effort. I should probably upload some of my old fonts to ZXGraph, if I can find them. Although for some reason it seems to be blocked here at work.

I was looking at fonts the other day and found this interesting site listing a few Commodore *cough* 64 fonts; which might be of interest?

Here's a few which I've got. The three named after games are from those games; the others I did myself. The picture linked TAP file contains a few other character & UDG sets as well.

Here's some others from magazine type-ins:
    Redefined Character Set, Kai Weber
    Character Set, Geoff Wearmouth
    Reformed Characters, T Sherwood
    Space-Age Characters, David Nunn
    Character Set, unknown
    Character Sets, Ben Stragnell
    Characters, Jasper Visser
    Font, Peter Zoeteweij
    Font, R Glavas

There are more than that, but the others are NTY.

I quite like your 'crusoeset' one there, though I'm not sure the last few letters keep the style going; to me the 'V' and 'Y' should be in a centred style with some symmetry to them - in fact, you could copy the 'Y' from the top one there and flip it.

Nearly all fonts will limit characters to seven pixels wide, leaving space to the right so that the characters don't merge. A lot will be only seven pixels high, leaving a one-pixel line at the bottom for lower-case character tails or effects. But if you can afford to leave blank rows between your lines of text, and you want really chunky letters, you can have full 8-pixel high characters.

The file HCTSUDGs at the end of CHARSETS.TAP has some 4x8-bit characters which work quite well as long, as you say, they're not too close together.

Here's a few more, but you'll have to type in the listings first. The Multi-Font Typewriter has some nice ones.

    Type Founts Galore, Ian Farquharson
    New Character Font, Mike Biddell
    Multi-Font Typewriter, Jose Figueira
    Alternate Character Set, Dave Hawke

ZX-ALFA fonts (32 columns) can be visualized here.

64#4 fonts (64 columns) can be visualized here.

FZX fonts (proportional) can be visualized from several entries listed here.

They can all be used freely, just please mention it somewhere in your game credits that you have used them!
