Alternatives to eBay for selling music

edited April 2014 in Chit chat
Well, after 14 years and 13,000 positive feedback I finally managed to annoy eBay enough for them to hand me a lifetime ban from selling there. Bless 'em and their funny ways :x

Anyhoo, not looking for sneaky ways to get back on their site, but wondered if anyone had experience of selling online elsewhere, predominantly for CDs (mainly rock/metal, but a little new wave, punk and 80's pop too!)?

Am giving Discogs a try but it's been very quiet. I've looked to buy stuff before on Gemm, MusicStack, Amazon etc but can anyone make any recommendations?

I've never even looked at other online auction sites, so again if any Wosser happens to use eBid or whatever they are, do you get much in the way of sales/hits?

Any advice happily received!

I don't sell CDs but my day job involves selling on Amazon, Ebay etc. Amazon is by far and away the busiest but if you're listing existing CDs rather than rare stuff you'll just be competing against the likes of zoverstocks etc as you're listing on the same product. Also it costs ?25 a month to sell on there.

Ebid is very quiet, it might be different for CDs but we've had no more than 10 orders over the last 2 years (I'd hazard a guess they were all disgruntled ex-ebayers)

I never use them myself, but what about Facebook groups? The ones I know about are mainly local groups for big stuff like furniture but there might well be dedicated groups for CDs...

Can I ask how you got banned from ebay - was it low DSRs? I've heard loads of horror stories about banned sellers over the years, they certainly don't make it easy...

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys - have been intrigued with trying Amazon, but the pricing structure seems quite costly, what with variable final fees, fixed final fees etc? Hadn't thought of Facebook groups, might well be worth a look-see.

I was banned from selling on eBay - as far as I can make out, they've been less than clear even on appeal and phone conversations - because I listed a few items simultaneously that transgressed their copyright policy and then I had 2 customers who both (independently) claimed different items received were not as advertised (even though both got full refunds and kept the items too). It seems that I got a week temporary ban for the former issue, then the complaints triggered a review and the harsher sanction.

I've read some horror stories online of people being banned simply for having the same shared ISP/IP address as other banned users, including all eBay users on one college campus and all using a public library's free wifi access.

Seems that no one successfully appeals a ban, so you either try to sneak back in with stealth tactics, or chalk it up to experience and move on. No second chances in the world of eBay.... :o

I tried ebid for a while. listed hundreds on speccy games. I had a few buyers, then one buyer bought 100+ in one go, so I listed more and had no luck for months and gave up. I might try it again sometime as I have a lifetime seller+ account.

The thing about ebay is that they advertise everywhere, you can't avoid finding it when searching. I found ebid quite good for google results, but they don't advertise the site enough.
