Homebrew cider kit on Dragons Den

edited August 2014 in Chit chat
Like the sound of it, but ?25 for 20 pints of 4.5% sounds a bit feeble.

I'm sure it could be boosted with some extra yeast and sugar to 6-7%, but I'm not an expert on these things...

Any homebrew experts on here to advise?

To reply to your points in order....

    It's very expensive, you should be paying about ?12 - ?14 for 40 pints of 7 - 10%.

    It's not quite that easy.

    See the Brewdog thread.

I think the marketing gimmick with this kit is you don't need a sterilising bucket or any of the other paraphernalia involved in home brewing, hence the high price (?1.25 a pint? Pfffffffffft!)

Not worth the expense for such a little amount at a feeble alcohol content IMO. Get the normal equipment and cider kit from Wilkinsons for about 40 quid and you'll be much happier with the results.

Westons is quite good stuff as well.

It's the splinters when you crap stuff but that's the real thing.

?12 would be more realistic, but I doubt Duncan Bannatyne will let it go for that price now he's involved.

I have come across this EZ cap set up, wonder if it'd be any good?

I think you are all missing the point here. Four bottles of 2L White Lightening from LIDL gets you bang off your tits for less than a tenner.

I'll second that, but I do work for Wilkinsons ;-)

And they've got a homebrew equipment and kit sale going on at the mo :-) 25% off everything.

I picked up one of Wilkinson's own cider kits yesterday. Not done a cider yet other than a small-scale turbo cider last year so it'll be interesting to see what it's like. The Wilkinson's own lager kit (first kit I did) wasn't very good so my hopes aren't high.

Pity that the Wolves Wilkinson's doesn't stock as many kit varieties as the Telford branch though. I might go and pick up a Cooper's Stout at lunchtime.

See, a speciality cider kit could work - with a particular apple, or even one of those new-dangled fruit flavours.
