Replacement 3D printable case on thingiverse

edited August 2014 in Hardware
I'd like to know people's thoughts on this:

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:226892

It claims to be a replacement case for the rubber key Spectrum, but it doesn't look right to me.

My Spectrums are all at my mom's house in the UK, so I'm going from memory here but:

1. The case appears to be in three parts. I don't remember the rear part of the top of the casing being separate from the keyboard part.

2. It looks like there are holes in the keyboard part.
Wasn't this a solid piece of plastic that the membrane sat on?
I thought that the only part with holes for the keys was the aluminium face plate?

I'm really interested in this because I'd like to print one.
We are getting a 3D printer at my job some time in the next few months, and I thought it would be cool to print a white case.

    Yes, the original case was in two halves, although the separation of the top half into two further pieces was probably done for ease of printing and in itself shouldn't be a problem. However:

    1) There should not be key holes, rather there should be small support posts at various points;
    2) There is no provision for the keyboard membrane tails to drop from the top half of the case through to the PCB;
    3) The rest of the dimensions look 'off' to me, for example the posts in the bottom half seem to be too far away from the edge, curve of edges just above the keyboard faceplate look wrong etc.

    Maybe this case was designed by someone looking at one of the Spectrum clones that has plastic buttons and a plastic case/keyboard top?

    Some of the edges on the top look a bit 'sharp' to me.

    Shame.

    Well, I just checked, and the bed of the printer would have been too small to print it anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter.
