Oooh, lucky man. I think I worked out for a decent PC I needed 1500 quid. PS4 sounds a lot cheaper. One day my friends I will upgrade... One day.

When did you work that out - 1998? :-)

You can build a gaming rig which is more than capable of playing the latest games, at medium to high settings, @1080P for < £500. This link has a few builds to give some ideas.

Medium to High, that isn't good enough ;). And I bet you've got one of those really dodgy graphics cards from China (Yeah I know they all are, but don't ruin a good wind up) bought from a so called 'Compute Fair', good luck when it explodes and takes you PC and house with it. he he.

Thank for the link by the way.
Computer Fair?!! You really are stuck in the 1990's ;-)

Don't you still have those dodgy fairs?

I think Wolverhampton still has one at the Racecourse but I haven't gone since about 2000. In the 90's they were great for getting some hardware (CPU's and RAM particularly) a lot cheaper than the shops but the online sellers such as eBuyer killed that off. After that all they were good for was grabbing cheap CDR/DVDR discs and you used to see the market-seller movie pirates buying thousands of them at a time. Nobody really uses discs any more so god knows what they sell at the fairs these days - probably just ink cartridges.

    Back on topic:

I've noticed a lot of venom for NMS online but I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about. I've only visited two star systems, a few planets and I'm enjoying it a lot discovering things and marvelling at just how impressive it is. In fact once I've fixed the hyperdrive again I'm going back to my start planet and seeing if I can 100% it.

I was happy with my one discovery last night that put another slot into my suit :-)
  • I've just got to my first Atlas Station and then picked up an Atlas Pass Blueprint at an Anomaly after my next hyperjump.

Now that I've upgraded my hyperdrive I'm back to some of the earlier planets to see what's behind the doors that will only open with an Atlas Pass.

  • I have just 100% my first planet :)

Every time I read that the oldest person in the world has died, I have to do a quick check to see it isn't ME..........
  • Wait till I get on it, then I will 100% destroy every planet... muahahahahah!!!!!!
    So far, so meh :)
  • Got it for my son as he wanted it, but it doesn't work with Intel Graphics, I will be getting a GFX card at some point, but that's down the road.. he wasn't very pleased, although we got the steam refund and bought Elite/Horizons instead, which he has been very happy with, and runs very acceptably on his PC.

We will come back to No Man's Sky at the right time as it does look good, and it is correct to say that Elite Dangerous, at the moment, does not do all that you can in NMS, but I have to say I was turned off by what I heard about the flying mechanics and other issues. Let's hope they get all that sorted. I also hope that NMS inspires the Elite team when it comes to how they integrate planetary landing on those with habitable atmospheres in their updates, I look forward to being able to leave the ship and go traverse space stations and spaceports. I don't want to hijack the thread, but I also think that Elite Dangerous would do well to integrate a player economy of some sort.
  • I have just read about the new Deus Ex and was astounded by some of the prices quoted, anything from £47 up to just under £100 if you buy all of the extras and add ons etc. So I misjudged the price of No-mans sky. Shows when it is time to stop buying games and start paying the heating bills.

  • Is anyone still playing this as reports are the player fall-off has been dramatic? I haven't loaded it since probably the second week of September. There's nothing particularly wrong or anything I dislike about it - just seem to have better things to play on PC/PS4.
  • No I haven't. In fact I haven't played any game for a while now. Because: Dota 2. Damn you!

Well I loved it for about a week and then I realised that there was nothing new to see that I hadn't seen on my first planet....sigh even getting the Atlas passes didn't offer anything new just same crap as before...

so stayed on a space station, amassed about 13 million units trading between the ships, bought a bigger ship for 9 million units, maxed out my exosuit inventory (48 slots).....now what ???

so not played for about 2 weeks, gone back to fallout 4 (have the season pass and not played any yet :) )

When you say 'trading between ships' what did you actually do? I've been playing for ages and only managed to make deceny money by mining expensive stuff like gold and eridium and then selling it.

  • I saw a couple of videos on youtube saying that the programmer has vanished and the company itself has gone underground, it appears that they are in trouble for making false claims and misleading customers with promises of things to expand the gaming experience online. It appears that most people are dropping the game like a hot brick.

  • As an alternative this is supposed to be good:

  • I dunno about space stuff 7 Days to Die looked quite appealing, but by the publishers own admittance it needs a hell of a lot of fixing...Plus I don't really have the time to commit to another game that out of the box demands insane amounts of time, and openly admits it does, without any real conclusion.

I'm playing Yakuza 5 right now, but in reality I'm lucky if I have time for a game of Outrun these days :))

  • Wow, I nearly saved up for a new PC for this game. Glad I waited. Glad I'm cynical! The commercial (non-indy) game world is full of billhooks and greedy so-and-sos who need a big kick up the ares for spoiling our enjoyment.
    Sod it!

  • Yeah!! I can finally rename my ship and my blaster. I've been waiting to do that for ages.
I would've paid for that on a DLC but they've given it for free.

Only just setup my PS4 - looks like I've got a hell of a lot of downloading to do...

It was nice that Just Cause 3 gives you a little sandbox island to play on while it installs to hard drive and downloads patches. Shame the version that ships is so bugged it crashes every 5 bloody minutes though.

  • People are still playing this massive failure? :))
    Every night is curry night!
  • Yeah, been playing it today. It's still bloody gorgeous and great fun to explore.
  • Not for me, having just checked out the Wiki and several videos. Too much unnecessary embellishment, confusing menu screens and frankly it just doesn't look or feel anything like my expectations for a space adventure. Sort of little girly dolls housey feel to it.
  • Not a fan of 70s Sci-fi artwork then Mike?

It has a very definite aesthetic, I find it very reminiscent of the covers to classic sci-fi books or prog rock album covers. Works for me, but not to everyone's taste, I guess.

I really like No Man's Sky: aesthetically pleasing, atmospheric and a nice relaxed pace. I would have preferred a better astronomical model for the star systems, but that's a minor niggle.

That wasn't very polite of me was it?
It was an honest evaluation from my point of view but I could have phrased it better, I was feeling rather cross after an hours worth of "Is this it?!"

I expected gritty, Meccano like perhaps, more engineering less touchy feely chick flick feel....ooops, sorry! No, that wasn't fair either, I dunno it just doesn't seem realistic but my opinions not worth much anyway seeing as how I am not a gamer by any means. My wife played Skyrim for about 2 years and loved it but frankly it didnt do anything for me. So don't lose any sleep over my views, I'm probably lightyears out of touch.

No worries! You're totally allowed to not like it and, as far as I'm aware, being a 'gamer' (and what qualifies someone as a gamer anyway?) doesn't make your views any more or less valid.
