Then for some reason he left WOS, before he had a chance to read my hilarious retort.
Dunno why.
..which bit?...
the bit about "great exchanges" between Martijn & ewgf, the bit about ewgf telling "hilarious jokes", or the bit about Martijn telling ewgf that he can't take his "****ing **** anymore"?...
:D
...maybe I should fill this space with a really really long post just to bring back a sense of normality again and appeal to whatever mysterious forces that ewgf might be wielding there...?!!!!!???...

He was maintaining this site for over 15 years. I guess at some moment he got totally burnt out and fun turned to heavy burden. The girl was just a trigger which gave him courage to stop.
I know, this was more a joke, with the fact that even Martijn had done some games for the Spectrum back in the past! I saw that video in youtube and went to check who had programmed this game and it was a suprise!! :) Now I have to play it and finish it ;)
Theres always a woman somewhere to tamper with a good thing.
Those people now in charge of the site need to continue to operate it as well as Martijn did.
But if nobody has the keys but Martijn, the site is in trouble!
Probably yes, probably not.
However, there's a lot of stuff to upload into the archive since January... :o :-?
Things are happening behind the scenes though it is taking a bit longer than we would all like.

In any case what ever Martijn derides I wan to say thanks. It must not be easy to let your baby fly from the nest.
Certainly, for me WOS has been there through the thick and thin of recent adult my life. I'd also like to thank all of you for making it the great experience it has been for me.
It's SO easy to just say "Why the hell isn't anything happening - find a solution and get your ****ing asses in gear" at the promises of the promised new plans and general state of things...
...but that being said - with 11 persons working behind the scenes ("11" - a detail I don't think we've been given before) there can be no doubt that something IS being done.
It reminds me of the picture below that I saw posted a couple of days ago. Considering that most of us are 35+ (and most probably way over that) we should also (most of us anyway) know that at this point in our lives there are so many obligations and things that are more important than ...fluff, so if things take a little extra time, then that's just how it has to be. Whether we want it to or not. Things are not always as simple as you want them to be. Priorities.
That being said: Why the hell isn't anything happening - find a solution and get your ****ing asses in gear.

Maslow's pyramid has a fundamental flaw - it is modeled upon American society of the '50s and therefore reflects the view of human life (mostly) expressed by it. Besides, it does not take into account that at different ages, or in certain situations of their own life, people could and will have a hierarchy of needs and goals that's quite different from that.
Sorry for offtopic but I'm just curious - how is it different in other societies?
First food and sleep, then love, then some more abstract stuff like spirituality.
Is it really different with Bushmen, Eskimos or Yanomani Indians?
...we're dooooooomed.

Well, apart from the fact that self-actualization goals, which stand at the top of Maslow's pyramid, can scarcely identify themselves with spiritual matters (he was pretty ambiguous himself about what would they actually be)... yes it is.
For collective-based societies, e.g. the Japanese, or nomadic cattle breeders/gather-hunterer ones, like the Nuer or the !Kung, social and collective exigences come before individual ones. Phenomena like the hikikomori generation in Japan are the product of the short-circuit between the traditional hierarchical and group-based Japanese view of society and the strong individualistic suggestions coming from the West - which anyone who's visited Japan for more than a fortnight will understand the Japanese mostly identify with the US - coupled with the loss of a stable perspective of work due to the recurring economical crisis which shaked that country from the second half of the '90s on.
Another example of a context where Maslow's pyramid is pretty much out of place are Mafia-like crime organizations. Those who want to get too much power for themselves unavoidably spark conflicts and are promptly eliminated - together with any innocent bystanders who only happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Even Martijn's case can be explained as a 'conflict' between two desires for social fulfilment: his role as leader of the WOS running community vs. his plans for his future life which will unavoidably give him new social roles and - what concerns us the most - pull him away from here.
But anyway, besides sending a huge 'thank you' to Martijn for his work, I am perfectly fine about that as long as WOS exists :)
