holding the fort

edited November 2014 in Infoseek database
Is anyone keeping a record of all the Infoseek corrections posted here since the commencement of the interregnum? I just thought that in this prophesied future time when a new Messiah takes over maintenance of the database it would be helpful if all this information had been consolidated in one file rather than being spread over hundreds of forum posts.

Good idea - I suppose it wouldn't take too long to stick it all in an Excel file or something - only wish I had the time to do it :(

By my reckoning there's 300-odd posts that haven't been looked at going back to February 2013.

There's also the 100001 corrections on the WOS mail list :)

If someone can propose the correction spreadsheet format, I could have a crack at going through them.

Oops - bad choice of words by me.

It's not a mail list. It's the emails that get sent to the WoS team members from the uploads and email contact form. We also use it to contact everyone within the team.

So it's not a mailing list at all (clod! Ed)

    Sorry for the confusion.

Oh, and I've started compiling a spreadsheet of this particular part of the forum.

It could turn out I make a horse's arse of a job of it, but at least I'll have a go :)

    Hello, all..

I've put together some code to scrape the "Infoseek database" forum into an Excel sheet that I can start to look over, and populate with additional relevant columns that might help with an update batch process at some stage (that's the hope, anyway!!)

What I need to know is when was the last entry here actioned on?

That way I know how far back I need to record changes that are needed to be done.

I'm well aware it was a while(cough) ago, but hopefully regular contributors here will be able to point me in the direction of how far back I need to go to :)

Well the oldest one I could find that didn't have a reply was from 14/02/13:

    http://www.worldofspectrum.org/forums/showthread.php?t=42634

There are some later posts that Martijn has replied to - last one was on 10/03/13 - but they could just be discarded if he's already taken action on them.

    Lee is right ;)

There are some posts where Martjin didnt reply, from february, although he took action in some of the threads from March... so, I would say that the big amount starts in:
    http://www.worldofspectrum.org/forums/showthread.php?t=43015

Although there are a few ones without reply before.

Thanks for taking care of this ;)

Thanks for taking the time to look at that.

I started work on this, following your reply (and promptly forgot to post a "thanks - that'll do nicely" reply!!)

I now have an Excel sheet with the Infoseek forum posts starting from the date you specified working "down" to the current page (I say down because my scraping script starts at page 13[or whatever] and works down to the current start page).

I'm now on the less than 100% easy task of reading through them all, trying to put them into some form of order that'll allow for as many as possible to be batch processed (EG changing machine model, game name etc etc).

It'll be slow going, but I'll hopefully get there :)

Can I also point out that everything sent to the MIA email address/uploads form/ftp will be actioned by the team...

I put that in a reply elsewhere on here, but it apparently wasn't on THIS one as well.. Ooops..
