Willy The Wasp 2

edited November 2014 in Brand new software
Heres 2 versions, the Z80 file runs as it should, but the TAP file has issues which I cant resolve. The issues seem to be concerning the paging in of bank 6 which runs slower.

Perhaps someone can remedy this issue?

This justs reminded me that I still have to play the first part!
As usual, the visuals are really outstanding and really colourful :o

I really want to try these 2 games, I wish I have time soon...

Cracking graphics, brilliant music... but what is the aim of the game?

Flown around, pressed fire on the hives and a another wasp appears, if I mount it and fire I get points, if it mounts me I die.
Hive respawns when re-entering screen, wasp sometimes exits hive. Unwashed 58....

Repeat on other hives, but the unwashed stays at 58.

Got stuck on one screen because a respawn of a hive in the next screen blocked the way out.

So Davey give us a clue, it's your game tell us what to do....

Sorry Mat, I've been that vexed by the bank 6 issue I forgot about the game itself.

A nuclear facility has been taken over by environmental protestors and the reactor has caught fire. You must sting all 58 of the pot-smoking degenerate 'unwashed' rabble then track down their ring leader.

Barry the Bumblebee will emerge from his hive after a period of time, this can open up new exits, these routes can be 'one way' though. If a hive blocks the way its meant to.

Some creatures can be stung, but those wearing helmets cant.

Erm... I think that's about it really!

Does the AY not run slower on the TAP?

The 'OH NO!' when you die is slow and distorted on the TAP compared to the Z80 file...

Just keep stinging the watermelon type characters and it should be
    come apparent...

    Thanks Davey.
So the great unwashed are the green ball nasties as seen in the second screen, sting one of them and it goes smaller, as shown in the first screen.

And don't get buggered by Barry the Bumblebee.

can't say I can tell about the music, it crashed on my +3 but was fine on my grey+2

now it's loaded on my +3 ok :???:

any way can't tell the difference, i'll have to run it side by side

Sh*t, I tried to convert it into a diskette but the 15th line somehow kills TR-DOS.
And without it there are no proper fonts, not to mention it almost doesn't react on the beginning, for K nor J keys (finally it starts but after 30 seconds or something).

So I rather give up this time.

Very cool, it never ceases to amaze me that people are still pushing the Speccy even further than ever. If this had been a commercial title during the golden years it would've blown people away.

The funny thing is, I also got the same impression.

The 'OH NO!' in the Z80 file (configured as Spectrum 128K) seems to sound better than the TAP file when loaded as exactly the same Spectrum 128K model, for some reason...

Loaded the game in +2A mode in emulation and got an error "G or print restore step"...

Hi Davey, just to say through this site that i've done a full playtest of WILLY THE WASP II prior to release and loaded z80 v14 (converted to WAV) into my original 128k+1 model and the speech is fine along with title music so it must be a problem with the TAP file.

I will be uploading a full longplay of this on my youtube retro gaming channel this weekend which follows on from the preview clip I uploaded a week ago: ZEUSDAZ http://www.youtube.com/user/ZEUSDAZ

I'm glad my input into the game was useful, I will be thinking of idea's for WILLY THE WASP III over the next few weeks and it's cool to see my name on the title screen (bottom-right)

Just to say it was a joy to be an official playtester while you were programming this, it's a shame Willy's scream wasn't replaced with him saying ******** when he dies thanks to time restrictions but I hope that idea of mine will make it's way into the third game.

If anyone wants to see this game being played on the original hardware, then please visit my retro gameing channel ZEUSDAZ http://www.youtube.com/user/ZEUSDAZ :D

Thank you very much, it was great putting idea's, opinions and being the playtester of WTW II,...it's even cooler seeing my name on the title screen, never thought that would happen to me

I'm currently working on idea's for WTW III for Davey which will start to be programmed next year and believe me, if my whacky idea's works out it's gonna be a whacky Willy III game

Thanks a lot for TK90X Fan for all the help.

    You're welcome, Yerz! ;)

I'm happy to see that it works in my TK90X with TKMEM-128 (a 128K RAM expansion). It's very colorful, resembles somehow Rainbow Islands. However I'm clueless about what I must do in the game. I got killed very quickly!

Davey, Zeus - well, if You guys have a poke for infinite number of lifes, then it would be splendid!!!!!!

    TK90X_Fan:

The game is about "stinging". ;) To sting all enemies except the guys in hats with stars (they're immortal). And to sting 2 kinds of green static sprites: the circle-ones and the L-shaped ones.

Ah, and you can sting this stuff ONLY from the upper side.

Yeah, great stuff and the playing rules, I was playing now for a long time, with a lot of pleasure.

I would like to report a bug after all - there is a place where the Wasp can stuck in the walls.
Near to the 3 "KEEP OUT" chests. Then one has to reset the computer, sadly.

Well, I will be remember about it and will try to play again, avoiding the place.

Ah yes, I thought that would go unnoticed, you can decrease the number of unwashed using this bug, but the proper unwashed need to be removed anyway otherwise you cant progress. If the unwashed counter flips to 255 you are basically knackered.

Unless you know what you're doing as a shortcut to the end its not really worth it...
