Mystery Port on ZX Spectrum 48k +

edited January 2015 in Hardware
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with a little mystery?

After I tripped over my first 48k +, and knocked out the joystick expansion, I bought an almost identical 48k + from a second hand shop to replace it.

This was around 1994. I never opened the replacement speccy up but, on the left hand side of the QL-style keyboard, there was a silver phono port and a 'stick' type silver toggle switch.

I was never able to figure out what it was. In recent years I've started to wonder if it was an RCA video port (especially since it was so close to the internal RF modulator), or possibly audio.

I haven't owned that Spectrum for over a decade now (2004) so I can't test out my theory - does anyone here know what the port was for?

Certainly wasn't something official. Sounds more like a DIY job by the previous owner.

    Thanks.

If you could take a photo, a more precise 'guess' as to its use could be added.
Also, if you are willing to open up your Spectrum+ and take a photo of the port from the inside of the case, that would be even better. :)

It might have been audio-out to connect to a hi-fi. The switch would then have been (one would hope) to turn this feature off whilst loading a game.
