New game "Ice Slider Z" by egotrip

edited March 2015 in Brand new software
Anyway, Ice Slider Z is a collect-em-up in which you attempt to collect 12 jewels on each screen. The trick is once you start moving, only brick walls can stop you. You will bounce off rubber blocks. There are also fires and guardian bubbles to hinder your progress, in addition to a time limit.

Controls are Q = Up, A = Down, O = Left, P = Right. There is also a cheat mode if you get stuck. Hint: think binary.

Bit of a bug - when you run into the red rubber blocks, you leave your magenta colour behind on them.

Cool game, but you made guessing the cheat too easy :D

    I won't use it yet.

love the grafix and the idea !

    is this an AGD game?
(that might explain the magenta bleeding problem)

Fun game! I feel like playing Decathlon when I bounce off a wall by accident so I wouldn't recommend playing this with your precious keyboards :D
What is the main character ?

Thanks for the comments. My account was finally activated (thanks to whoever did it) so I can now reply.

This is my first ZX Spectrum production, I made it with AGD. CPC is my preferred platform but the AGD for CPC doesn't work properly due to bugs so I decided to give the Spectrum a go while waiting for the bug fixes.

The main character is called Amy, she's the protagonist in all my games. I am currently writing an adventure game in AGD (for Spectrum), which is a prelude/prototype of a larger game I have planned. Its around 75% complete so eta should be no later than February.

    nice, look forward to that.

had loads of goes on this now and still cant make it past level 4, but its frustrating in a good way :-)

I really like this, a nice control concept. Not something I remember coming across before.

    Thanks very much for this!

Thanks. its had 101 downloads, thats way more than expected. My other games usually max at around 20. That encourages me to make more Spectrum games for certain.

Level 4 probably should be later in the game really, but AGD being AGD and the way I coded the screen layouts means switching it would be a major headache. But its all a learning curve. I have tested and played the game throughout without using the cheat mode, so I know for certain it definitely is possible.

If you want to check out what else I've done theres a link in my signature. They are mostly CPC/NDS/PC productions though.

The other day I was reading the AGD manual and find this which may do with the bleeding effect: SPRITEINK
    Thanks again for the game

Yes that SRITEINK command is the cause of that issue, but I think its better to have a Purple main sprite that stays purple and occasionally leaves purple marks behind, than a main sprite that changes colour often depending on what it collides with. Its only a minor issue and is one of the unfortunate effects of colour clash (and having a limited coding ability).

Anyway, the game got a 78% review in this month's Retro Gamer which I was happy with.
