Pagan influences in speccy games

edited February 2015 in Games
Possibly due to its Englishness, the Spectrum seems to have quite a fair share of games that have pagan influence.

Obviously the sword n sorcery tolkien-esq games lend themselves to that ideal,
but still, it seems very much an 80's / spectrum phenomena...doesn't happen so much these days.
There are also a lot with old mythology - avalon myths / greek mythology etc

Can you think of any examples ??

Gods is chock full of ancient Greek myths. The Book Of The Dead is everything you need to know about Egyptian myths.

TBH, 'Pagan' is such a wide ranging net that I'm struggling to think of anything that is explicitly non-pagan. Stonkers?

Not just the Speccy - if you've never seen Wicked on an ST you should give it a try. Full of mystic symbols, constellations, tarot cards, spooky bleeding eyes and monsters. Your character in the game is a burning human sacrifice based on da Vinci's Vitruvian Man.

Pagan imagery and themes are very popular in videogames that are European/British, it's the history and it isn't necessarily occult, whereas I think when it's from the US there is definitely more of an occult theme to it due to the underlying history not being present in US history (at least post-colonization, which is what people consider US history).

Don't forget Avalon, Knight Lore, etc. Discounting things like racing and sports games I think you'd have a smaller job listing the games that didn't have this influence, it would be lesser in sci-fi settings possibly, although a lot of sci-fi is just magic/sorcery but in space, with the pseudo-scientific pretext that because it's the future, the advanced technology means it can exist..
