Useless weapons

edited February 2015 in Games
Does anyone know of a weapon in computer games more useless than the 'mine' in Cybernoid? The only times I ever used them was by accident, when trying to quickly select bombs under pressure!

I think that target thing on Zynaps comes a close second!

The grenade from Ghosts 'n' Goblins, surely?

The knifes in Saboteur 2 seemed to have little effect on the androids.
    The trouble with tribbles is.......

Yep, the cursed grenade in Ghosts And Goblins. But whilst considering the comic effect, the sword in Halls Of The Things comes second.

the sword in Sabre Wulf when the baddies are coming at you vertically.

Sadly, the proton packs in Ghostbusters seem to have very little impact on where the ghost goes, and you certainly can't 'catch' them in the stream like you can in the film.

    Still like the game though.

The laser rifles in Rebelstar 1. The game can be done mostly with the 4 battle droids and the two initial photon cannons.

    The pebbles in Antiriad.

Nooooo they were great at long range, often did a last gasp saved with one of them

I seem to remember them being highly innaccurate

The knife in Cobra was pretty useless, I preferred the headbutt (no weapon) myself!

The sword in Halls of the Things was terrible. In order to get close enough to use it you'd likely get hammered with arrows and magic, and the graphics for it were a bit dodgy too.

Knifes are supposed to have little effect on androids!

unless anyone knows different, I'm fairly certain Turbo the tortoise can be completed without even needing to fire your gun once. Making it a bit useless. although it kills the baddies fine if you do use it instead of jumping on them

I agree. It's frustrating when at the beginning of the game you get it unintentionally, grrrrrr!

Bolter in "Space Crusade". When you try to use it almost everytime dice score is zero-zero.

    Timex 2048 & divIDE 57c

Oh, and in ATF there was the choice of dumb ASRAAM missles, or homing but heavier Maverick missiles. I never managed to hit anything with an ASRAAM. Couldn't even tell you what it stands for.

Bomb in Slapfight, and the targetting thing in Zynaps is the best weapon against bosses!

My first thought was the Ghosts and Goblins grenade thing (I always through it was a fire bomb).

Never liked the yellow weapon in R-Type. The ring laser thing was the best, the blue reflecto-beam thing was good but that yellow ****e was ****e!

Grenades in Green Bert weren't very good especially as the level they show up on is really hard.

Any of the melee weapons in Target: Renegade. I always felt they slowed you down.

One weapon that I mistakenly thought was gash was the flamethrower in Alien Syndrome but when I gave it a proper go it was devastating.

Interesting shout there for the Rebelstar laser rifle. I didn't mind it (but I always aim through the enemy which improves accuracy). The light sabers seemed to be rubbish as weapons. Good for clearing terrain though.

The laser rifles are definitely one of the more accurate weapons. The photons are terrible at range, as are the laser pistols.

The light sabres are not useless either, with a bit of luck and persistence they can destroy airlocks, saving valuable combat droid blasts.

I agree that the grenades are less effective than the two first weapons, but they are actually better than what they looks like and have a larger "impact area" than what is visible. :)

The sword in Gift From the Gods...

The most useless weapon I can think of

the light sabres can also cut through the security doors, leaving those combat droids to rip apart those master droids when at close range.

that worked....you just had to "stun" them with the chopping motion before stabbing them for the kill I think

Knife from Cobra probably gets my vote... bloody useless thing whizzed about anywhere....speaking of which - ANYTHING on wizzball before you can turn off the bouncing...

Yes, you hack away until you hear a beep and then go for the stab. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty much 100% effective; it's the opposite of useless.
  • The three way gun in Robocop.
  • The insurance policy in Dragonsbane. :)

Not really a weapon but the orc that you can cast in Chaos is useless, even the King Cobra can kill it.

ASRAAM - Although Seemingly Reliable Actually Awful Missile?
