House of Fools with Vic and Bob was very funny most of the time (except for when that kid upstairs was on screen. He was terrible)
I don't know the name of this one, but it's very recent and was set in the Scottish Highlands. I'd catch the odd few minutes, usually towards the end of an episode and found myself laughing out loud at some of the gags. That seemed good!

Professional Mel-the-Bell Simulator................"So realistic, I found myself reaching for the Kleenex King-Size!" - Richard Darling
I'd like to add 2 Scottish comedies - Chewin' the fat and Still game. Both very funny, in fact 2 characters from Chewin' the fat (Jack and Victor) started off there and went to Still Game,
+1 for still game .a series with comedic situations and a story rather than a nominal star lining up funny one liners then moving on to the next scene for more of the same. Such a shame they fell out and brought it to an end. Also Absolutely and naked video from north of the border and not forgetting Rab too.
They did do a stage show last years which i didn't really like much but they may return next year with a new series.

Another one for the list is Burnistoun. Sketch show set in a fictional town near Glasgow. Some funny and surreal characters on that.
Also, Limmy's Show. Not for everyone but I found it mostly brilliant.
If you want to watch something unusual try Lab Rats with Chris Addison.
Each episode is a collection of jokes which all tie in to a final visual joke. Silly but fun.
I'm also with Maroc; Old Harry's Game is a classic. One of my fave CD's for in the car. I played the first series continuously for a year whilst commuting.
Two old duffers in a high rise council flat near Glasgow and the people that surround them. It's British comedy at its very best, a real gem that has largely passed unnoticed by those not in Scotland. If you do not have the boxed set yet, get it for Christmas. Happy Viewing.
In fact they are all now on YouTube. Here is one of my favorites:

Good luck anyone not in Scotland trying to understand what they're saying! :D

It could use subtitles in a few places but it's nowhere near as bad as Rab C Nesbit!
I like The Middle and, Modern Family from current times.
The Cafe was okay, a very gentle comedy that wasn't gut-bustingly funny but still a decent watch
Early Doors was great (as someone mentioned)
Larry Sanders was a clever show
I really loved Cheers back in the day, and it's still good today
The Young Ones is classic, and Bottom was also fantastic
There are many more like Phoenix Nights, Futurama, The Office, Life's Too Short, Derek....
Same people who did the US Office Remake, quite similar but set in an Indiana government department
Louie
Each episode is more like an individual weird French comedy film that stars Louie CK
Mystery Science Theatre 3000
An up until recently defunct low budget comedy where a bloke is trapped on a spaceship and forced to watch really bad B-Movies with his robot companions and they provide commentary to the film by making fun of it.
as for UK comedy
I know he's already been mentioned but Limmy's Show needs a watch
Surprised there is no love for Still Game. If you've not seen it watch the vid I posted you will not regret it.
One or two of us have already mentioned our love for Still Game.
Got the box set and the hogmanay episodes they made before they fell out over their production company, and no subtitles needed, never had any bother understanding it or Rab C. :-)
I've only started watching this recently (a mixture of old and new episodes). I like it. I don't necessarily laugh out loud very often watching it, (it's more a show that makes you smile) but it's well done and the kids are very good. The daughter especially is a great character. It's very much in the same vein as Malcolm in the Middle.
Two spring to mind, firstly the episode ( Hot Seat)where Jack and Victor try to get a seat in the local park to enjoy the lovely weather and keep failing. and the one where Winston tries to buy some chops at the local butchers(forgotten the title) only to have a local woman beat him to it every time. The butcher tells him he had a dozen left but she took them all which causes Winston to shout out, "Wut's she doin' building a Bluddy Cow"!!?
True situation comedy and not just a list of witty one liners rinse and repeat.
Catastrophe has just finished its second series on Channel 4.
Unashamedly adult in content, it follows an American businessman who has a one-night stand with an Irish teacher in London. When she reveals she is pregnant, their troubled relationship begins...

It's about time Bret and Jermaine did some new stuff. Apparently there's a film in the works but who knows when it'll be out.

I know I shouldn't like it but for some reason it does make me laugh...
Although not a sitcom I do like Dave Gorman: Modern Life is Goodish, anyone else enjoy it?
I've started watching them on Netflix after your recommendation. I'm halfway through series 2 and loving it! :-bd
It's good to hear some of you are enjoying still game. I always thought it was a rather under-rated / un-known jewel of British comedy.
What's your favorite episode so far?
I think my favourite one so far is the one where they run the corner shop for Navid.
Oh that's the one with the extra clean Burger Van man, yeah that's a goodun very memorable and funny.
