I probably would've sold or traded them for Spectrum stuff, that's what happens when you're a kid. We see it at boot fairs with kids/teens selling off their prize Pokemon cards or worthless tat for pennies to fund this months new phone/ipad/gadget - yeah, I probably sold lots of things at boot fairs to get Spectrum/Amiga goodies.
Now, I don't really care about the figures, nor would I swap my Spectrum for them. Those figures would just sit in a box or if displayed collect dust.

Step up to red alert. Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb!
Looking forward to summer in Somerset later in the year :)
I was given my 48k speccy from my grandad - and had a small (but modest) collection of Kenner SW figures, so difficult to hypothesise on the predicament of the article writer...
Having said that: as a kid, I probably wouldn't have sold my SW figures to obtain a speccy - however, now as adult, I'd probably jump at the chance!
Currently - I still own most of my Kenner SW figures, and have collected (on and off) various SW figures and vehicles over the years - and still do (ongoing with the new movies) - and I own my original speccy, though I'm not sure quite where it is (possibly tucked away at the back of my garage, in some need of repair?).
First world problems, eh?
Ps: I voted good move (by a narrow margin) - very... Narrow...
