Toro's Friend Network is no more!

Well, apparently this happened on June 30th, but I only just found out about it!

If you haven't played it, Toro's Friend Network was a free app for the PS Vita with a stated goal of recruiting 100 friends to your PSN friends list, so that the main character - Toro the Cat (A Sony Mascot) - could become human. I actually managed to do it, but the ending was very anticlimactic.. I got 100 friends and he said something like "hey, looks like I can't become human.. But at least you have a bunch of friends now!"

There were also a couple of RPG bits with 'pay to play' elements like extra life packs and eliminating recharge timers, etc. (Nothing you'd actually want to pay for, if you were sane).

The upshot of this bloody game is that I now have about 86 people in my friends list whom I don't really know, whom the system notifies me about when they come on-line (PS3 and 4 as well) and who randomly send out unintelligible messages that they CC their whole friends lists on (and usually amount to "you suck!" "no, YOU suck!" etc.)

I should probably set to deleting everyone from the app, but I can't be arsed.

    Yes indeed!

I'd have been so very very annoyed at befriending close to 100 muppets only to be told, you can't achieve the goal, total bullshit if you ask me.

......and then you have the arduous task of deleting almost 100 muppets from your friends list =))

Usually I'd be annoyed at a game server or whatever being taken down, but this sounds like it's the type of awful faddy type game that should never have gone up in the first place, Sony ought to be ashamed of themselves :))

It's as bad as STEAM greenlighting Zoey Quinn's Depression Quest cos' she sucked off somebody who worked for them =))

  • It was a pretty annoying game, but one that I didn't stop playing until I mostly finished.

(Didn't bother with the RPG bit any more after the 100 friends trolling - especially as you could tell that you'd basically have to start buying power ups to get much further than I got, and the story wasn't that compelling anyway... Rescue Toro's friends from the dungeon.. Blah)

There were other bits to it - you had to make game money to get by.. You could 'hire' friends to work for you and they could 'hire' you to work for them doing jobs in your social areas (which you could also buy extra ones of and develop with game money earned by having people work in them).. Hiring people and being hired also increased your stats in the RPG game and you could choose which friends to take into the dungeon (the RPG bit) with you. You could also make up to 10 friends per day in the 'friend lobby'. (All these restrictions were of course re-settable if you got your credit card out).

I got bored of it once I made 100 friends and it pulled that "oops, sorry" crap (actually I got bored of it a while before that, but I still wanted to finish the game by that point, having already invested that much time into it).

I hadn't actually played it in over a year as it was on an old memory card that filled up - but I stuck it back in the Vita to play a different game on there the other day and saw Toro's and fired it up, but now it says something like "Online and Multiplayer support for this game has ended - Please press the PS Button to return to the main menu"

I don't actually know why I care.. I don't really.. I think it's mostly the fact that I now have a friends list full of people I've barely interacted with for ABSOLUTELY NO BLOODY REASON!!

(And I can't be arsed to take the time to delete them)
