TT was so polished. The intro music, the in-game music, the pixel perfect collision detection and animation.
I loved it. Only ever completed about three tasks so spent my time exploring and trying to make it to new screens.
JSW felt 'rough' in comparison and was showing its age once I'd spent some time on TT.
TT was a tough game but I enjoyed it a lot. Both are classics in my opinion.
TT is better programmed and the presentation is certainly slicker, but the gameplay is sorely lacking. It punishes you for exploring the map, because the time limits are far too tight so unless you do exactly the right thing you'll never get anywhere. The difficultly curve in many of the early screens is way too steep (and in some cases is just insanely difficult entirely) and it's only made worse by the fact you can't actually know whether the screen you're in is passable or whether you need to do more tasks to make some subtle changes to the layout first.
Numbering the tasks in the megamix version is a minor improvement, but really the time limits needed to be removed entirely. And a few of the enemies, like that filing cabinet one, changed to give you a fairer chance.

Maybe somebody who has the skills could hack it to balance the difficulty? I love the game but it could be so much better.
didn't see this thread.. only game mentioned so far that I strongly disagree with (and that I've played) is Sabre Wulf...best game Ultimate did. imo
have to vote for Matchday/Matchday II. seems to be almost universally regarded as 'the' footy sim for the spec, but always thought it was clunky and played sluggishly. plus the automatic power-bar shot control thing is just awkward. Emlyn Hughes is infinitely better in every respect
Tir Na Nog and Dun Darach, although I was quite young when I played them and the complexity might've been beyond a 9-year-old, I've got funny memories of attempting to play one of the other with two broken wrists, that didn't go too well.

I liked Match Day II until I played Emlyn and then it all changed. If anyone has played both and still prefers the Match Day games then they're a bit odd ;) Match Day II is like slow-motion pinball.

I do remember finding , with the aid of a multiface 3 and an infinite life finder tape, values that could be altered in Match day and Renegade to greatly speed up the action. Dammed if I can remember them though.

I'm not saying it's perfect or that it'll never be topped, but to date it's honestly the best footy sim I've ever played. there's literally nothing about the gameplay that annoys me, and I can't say that for any version of sensible soccer/ISS/FIFA etc that I've played, big console stylee...
