Sad news, I realy grew to like him the more I read about him. A man that was really meant for the profession that he worked in. I got the impression there was some rivalry between him and Bruce Forsyth, and that Bruice may have thought himself a cut above and wanted to assert that to him in subtle and not so subtle ways.
Went to see Frank Skinner a couple of years ago and he was talking about Brucie and how he absolutely hated sharing the stage or limelight with anyone. And then they put his ashes in the London Palladium so all subsequent acts are literally sharing the stage with him :D
I remember reading one about how when Sammy Davis Jnr came to London how Bruice tried to shut Lionel Blair out. Lionel ended up developing a good relationship with Sammy despite this. Having said that I may have to take back that supposition, apparently when at the top of their games they were good friends.
We are absolutely devastated and completely heartbroken to have to tell you that our beloved Astro has today passed away after a very short illness. The world will never be the same without him.
We ask you to please respect his family’s privacy at this incredibly difficult time.

It’s with a heavy heart I have to deliver the tragic news of the passing of Andy Barker - here is a statement from his immediate family. “After a happy life Andrew Barker experienced a short period of illness and passed away in his hometown of Manchester yesterday, Saturday 6th November. His family and friends asks that people respect their privacy at this time but remember him for the joy he brought through his personality and music. You’ll be sadly missed”"

Totally with you. The German news site do exactly the same, so annoying. Most of the time it's cancer (or these days Covid) anyway, so why not just name it?
Been told an ex of mine died of cancer last month, only just found out. That's the second ex to die this year, one died of a sudden heart attack at just 51, i was still in contact with her and were planning to meet for a drink :(

Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

I think I've done a Boozey and fired an internet bullet as I was only talking about him on Skype the other day with some colleagues, and how good he was in Quantum Leap. Guess that re-watch I promised in that convo is going to happen sooner rather than later now.
UB40 are pretty sh*t TBH, but I won't deny their early stuff was OK, at least until the money got them, and death sucks in general....
Yeah, pretty much agree with that. Has to be said that Red Red Wine is one of the finest covers of all time and a great song. I'm sure I read that Neil Diamond often plays this version, rather than his original, in his live performances. That's an accolade and a half.
At least it wasn't Carlsberg (used to sponsor the Evil Empire, Liverpool Football Club). They're sponsored by Standard Chartered now.
On 6 August 2012, the New York Department of Financial Services (DFS), led by Benjamin Lawsky, accused Standard Chartered of hiding $250 billion in transactions involving Iran, labelling it a "rogue institution". The bank was ordered to appear and defend its actions, or risk losing its license to operate in the state of New York. The DFS said it had documents showing a cover up of transactions allegedly used to fund terrorist groups in the Middle East.[49]
On 14 August 2012, Lawsky announced that the DFS and Standard Chartered reached a settlement that allows the bank to keep its licence to operate in New York. According to the terms of the settlement, the bank agreed to pay a $340 million fine.[50]
The bank agreed to install a monitor to oversee the bank's money laundering controls for at least two years, and appoint "permanent officials who will audit the bank's internal procedures to prevent offshore money laundering".[50] The monitor will report directly to the DFS.[51] Lawsky's statement said "the parties have agreed that the conduct at issue involved transactions of at least $250bn."[52] The bank issued a statement confirming that a settlement with the DFS had been reached and that "a formal agreement containing the detailed terms of the settlement is expected to be concluded shortly".[52]
Other US agencies—including the Federal Reserve, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Treasury Department, and the Justice Department—had also begun investigations into the laundering allegations and were reportedly taken off guard by the speed of the settlement.[50]
The Treasury stated that its own investigation of Standard Chartered will continue.[53] Several financial analysts predicted that, due to its strong financial position, the bank would be able to easily cover the $900 million fine without having to raise extra capital.[53]
On 6 August 2014, Lawsky was reported to be preparing a new action against Standard Chartered over computer system breakdowns and was "discussing a potential settlement".[54]
On 19 August 2014, the bank was fined $300 million by the New York Department of Financial Services for breach of money-laundering compliance related to potentially high-risk transactions involving Standard Chartered clients in Hong Kong and the UAE. The bank issued a statement accepting responsibility and regretting the deficiencies, at the same time noting the ruling would not jeopardize its U.S. licenses.[55][56]
In April 2019, it was reported that Standard Chartered may have to pay approximately $1 billion to settle its ongoing investigations in the US and UK. Earlier in February the company had set aside $900 million towards resolution of violations of U.S. sanctions and forex trading regulations. The company also faces a penalty of roughly $134 million from the United Kingdom's Financial Conduct Authority related to historical financial crime controls which takes the amount to over $1 billion.[57]

I'm sory to hear of the death of Andy and Astro.
So not content with taking all those I grew up watching on the telly, the grim reaper now decides it open season on my record collection.
My condolences mate.
