and another old punk, posted by a poster on talkpunk just now

    Nick Medlin (Manufactured romance)
    With great sadness ...

Nick Medlin, the bassist and co-writer with Manufactured Romance, was murdered just after midnight as Xmas Eve went into Xmas Day.

Nick was a friend of mine. I knew the band back in the day and got in touch again in the latter 2000s.

Their single Time of My Life b/w Room to Breathe is a little gem and something of a minor punk/post-punk classic.

Nick was a wonderfully warm, kind and funny person and it's tragic that this has happened.

He leaves his wife, with whom he spent 31 happy years, and two grown-upish sons, and a hell of a lot of loving friends.

    RIP xx

Like someone else said, he cetainly appears to be doing a bit of overtime at the moment, and it must be squeeky bum time if your a celebrity.

Yeah, and obviously those come as less of a shock....still sad though...it's just the sheer number of folk I actually recognise from my childhood! I've just read that another guy I remember from Bewitched, Knight Rider and loads of other TV shows died in early December too!

I didn't realise you did the autopsy on him. people in their 20's who don't to any drugs have also passed away due to a heart attack.

But to be fair certain sexually adventurous people for instance like George Michael have died face down in a swimming pool with 8 grams of coke thumbed up their arsehole as well.

He was a well known cottager, "meeting spot" frequenter, Dogger, and moderate to heavy drug user in his spare time off camera, so I wouldn't say it was wrong for people to assume that could be the or part of the cause of his death. Because we all know celebs never do anything stupid, life threatening, or excessive...

I'm sure it was all 100% innocent though, and I'm sure the "actual" autopsy will reveal that he'd just ate too many chips, and burgers, and possibly smoked a few too many Marlboro lights over his life time and it took a toll on his ticker.

I just found it found funny how scottie is rather selective, considering other peoples rep also... the stones have battered it for years and are still around.

he had phenomena , what 4 years back.. that does a "job" on the body long term also even if you are lucky enough to get through it. I'm pretty sure scottie isn't a neighbour of his in highgate. I used to work with music / film types , still know a few (who act like normal folk).. and have seen the "lifestyle" aspect a few have choosen and it normally don't end up well.

Bloomin eck Fog? I did not mean to make you angry.

I only made that comment as when I left the UK he was being arrested for driving his Range Rover whilst under the influence of drugs (twice if I recall). I presumed that heavy drug use or excessive [insert sin here] in his spare time might have led to a downward spiral internally. It does happen.

I mean, Elvis died of a heat attack whilst taking a crap, but we can be sure that taking a crap was not the route cause his death.

To be fair, Scottie only asked it as a question. Its not like he was twattering it all around the world was it.

  • Yeah that outburst was very odd.
Perhaps he typed it as he noticed his neighbour was burning leaves in the back garden again :))

  • Remember
    Different people take death differently.
also Fog is a bit of musician from somewhere near where GM lived. So there is chance he knows him or at least someone who knows him.

  • I had Phenomena once... She was great :)
