Wogan was a great show. He had Kenneth Williams as his back-up guest if someone didn't show up. The only time it failed was when that Sue Lawley took the **** out of Vivienne Westwood. Last laugh on her the stuck up bitch, as Westwood became an icon in fashion and Lawley just faded away into beige blandness.
You mean Kenneth Williams always had to be there in case he needed come on? Bloomin heck must have never been away from the BBC studios. I guess it was in the event someone cancelled a day or two before.
No, he only lived round the corner and they knew a single call he would be there. He craved the limelight and was happy to help. Any chance to tell his wonderful stories.
Speaking of good interviewers, I always thought James Lipton in his Inside The Actors Studio was excellent. Incisive questions and a genuine warmth and empathy for his guests. It helped that he had a fantastic inside knowledge of the subject. He never appeared sycophantic or confrontational and just let his guests speak, with subtle guidance or prompts as necessary. You felt that there was a mutual respect which is often lacking from interviews.
I'm kinda surprised it took so long!
I mean, they still let his story be heard for few weeks. It wouldn't have been a surprise at all if we had never heard about him at all ever again after his rebellion got knocked back.
Russia is so fcuked up... /:)
On a scale of The Sun/Daily Mail/News of the World (now defunct after they hacked that murdered schoolgirl's phone) vs. the Mirror they are nowhere near as bad as that. (Piers Morgan being editor once excepted).
