Thanks for the support!!

There's been a bit of (unwanted and unprovoked) negative commentary made by an ex-WoSser on Twitter and FB recently and the support for WoS from the two main Spectrum FB pages (WOS & Spectrum4Ever) is most gratifying and reassuring.

We have known for some time that support and interest for the Spectrum would dwindle as the years roll on (in fact it's something that has been mentioned and discussed on WoS on a semi-regular basis for more than 10 years), we all get older, get different interests with real life also rearing it's ugly head and sadly some of us start to pass away (morbid isn't it!!) but I have to say that we are still getting a steady flow of applicants joining this site. Some take active participation in the forums whilst others just prefer to lurk and take advantage of the vast archive.
It's really is quite humbling and satisfying to know that since the recent upheavals WoS is slowly (actually not so slowly) growing bigger and stronger again, the forums are getting more lively and the discussions are more Spectrum based than they have been for some time.
Once Lee has managed to get all the behind the scenes work done (and he is getting there!!) we will be in a very nice comfortable position.
We are never going to be the place we were back ion 2003-2005, we're all 10 + years older and I've mentioned a number other factors earlier but this still is the place to come to for your Speccy fix. There are other sites whether they be FB, Twitter or websites but to be quite honest none can really hold a candle to WoS whatever the site owners might think or say.

Long live ZX Spectrum. Long live WoS!!!!

That's looking good, I think you will get some from the fb groups migrating to here for more in-depth information. FB is good for quick answers, but WoSF is easier when trying to get detailed or complicated information.

Is that the whole site, or minus chit-chat though? Although I'm happier about quality over quantity.. :)

  • And don't forget - forum usage in general declinded rapidly when facebook groups took off. I can't remember the last time I was asked to set up a forum.

Yeah, forums will decline when FB groups appear, then people realise that that they are not quite as useful for information (try finding a particular post in a fb group heh), then they come back and use the forums... So make sure search works better than anything else, :)

I will admit that I don't like the theme/layout etc (how do I check recent posts on mobile:( ), but as long as the information is here I will use it, :D

  • Many thanks for giving us all a place to hang out. :)

I'm reading and posting this on a phone. I do have recent discussions bookmarked on Chrome which syncs to my phone. I find the full site easier to use than the mobile one though.

    Doesn't matter.

I'm looking forward to WoS of the future where 90% of the pics on the saucer thread are all mashed up or blended food... :P

I think that will always be the case, no matter how much work Lee puts in to the forums being mobile friendly. Forums were never designed to be read on mobile phones mainly because the forums were around before smartphones.

  • It would be nice to have notifications of new posts after you've posted in a thread on mobile. Like how it is on the full site.

Maybe a menu button to open up other links like recent discussions for example.

I've been using the mobile site quite a lot this past couple of weeks.

Actually what I meant was I find the full site easier to read on my phone than the mobile site!

Posting is another matter though, some things are just easier on a proper computer (or a laptop, in the absence of a Speccy)
