ROM checksum tool.
A recent post by Rorthron reminded me about this category and how little activity it's had since it was set up. :-S
Reading through the "preservation priorities" thread again reminded me that I never posted the checksum tool here, only in Sinclair Miscellaneous where it sank without trace as expected so here it is reproduced where it won't get buried by more popular threads ;)

This has been sitting on the hard disk 99% finished for months so I've spent this evening getting it into a hopefully release-worthy state, but more importantly creating the associated web page for it.
A download link to the .tap, and endless tables of mind numbingly boring data that some poor sod had to type up and sort available here.
Everyone is encouraged to run it on as many Spectrums and clones as possible. ;)

The problem with peripherals is that you need to know about their hardware first to know how to page them in and out and know how their ROM is mapped. It's not something that a program can do automatically really so it's not much help for peripherals we don't know about.
Tools to make checksums of the ROMs of particular peripherals are certainly possible though. What peripheral were you thinking of?

I've actually had a copy of the ROM for a while but it had no provenance so I was waiting for confirmation that it wasn't corrupted. I've now had an independent corroboration of the checksums from a user on Facebook (thanks Chris!)
That completes the full set of Official ROMs for the +2A/+3 +2B/+3B as far as I'm aware. Now just those ultra rare Egyptian versions to find!...
