I just can't play Uridium!!!

I got a job lot of games from eBay last week and among them was Uridium. I loaded the game up and I find it completely unplayable. I'm a big fan of side-scroller shmups, but, for me this game is just too fiddly.

Is there some 'knack' to playing this game?

  • It takes practice. I was quite good at it back in the day - but my reflexes these days ain't what they used to be!

Once you get the hang of looping and side flipping the game will open up
  • Use keyboard...... 'nuff said.

I found it flippin' difficult when I replayed it after so many years. But then even back in the day I could usually only get to level 3 or 4.

I used to flip the ship a lot once the enemies started homing in which helped a bit. But even then I found it quite tough.

  • Trouble is the keys are:

    Left - Z
    Right - X
    Up - L
    Down - SYM/SHIFT
    Fire - ENTER

So playing it on my +2 is a shittin' nightmare :-)

You need to remember the deck layouts so you can pass left and right at speed and be ready to dodge anything before you see it. Not saying it's easy...

  • I loved it, Great atmosphere, cool shimmering effect on the scroll. [blasphemous comment]Better than the C64 version. [/blasphemous]

I've found some games hard to play nowadays that i used to play easily back in the day, not sure if it's my age or my shorter attention span.

    The trouble with tribbles is.......
  • I think it's the fact that 'back in the day' you'd have probably spent a good chunk of your pocket money on the game, had to wait at least 5 minutes for it to load and would be prepared to at least give it a go. These day's I can fire a game up in 2 seconds from my DivMMC and think 'nope, too hard, can't be arsed to play it' :-)
