Basic Atic Atac Qs

Just getting back into Atic Atac and it remains a top top game.

Quick question: Is there a way to know which floor you are on? The caverns are distinctive, but am I missing a clue in the colour scheme or rosette?

I am finishing it from time to time, but remain guilty of doing a headless chicken!

Thanks as ever

  • There isn't, but get hold of the map, once you learn roughly where the staircases are you can find yourself fairly easily. Some thoughts:

    - Key for getting 99% is the blue key access only rooms top left of the map on level 2 :)
    - Space bar pause for those map moments
    - Don't bother with the 'special' meanies and the objects that prevent them doing things

There's no way to tell - you have to keep track. Obviously the caves are the lowest level. Then there's a Basement, which has a lot of yellow doors. To get the yellow key to open them you have to drop in the middle room from a trapdoor above - that's the Ground Floor, where you start. Then there's a First Floor above that, then the more limited Attic, which you'll need the yellow key to get into.

To get that yellow key you'll need either the Cyan or the Green and Red keys to get to the top-middle section of the Ground Floor, then fall through the trapdoor into the Basement, where you'll find yourself surrounded by yellow doors but with the yellow key right there. Don't drop through the trapdoor in the top-left of the Ground floor map or you'll fall down two levels and end up in the caves. Unless you've got this far without the cyan key, in which case it might well be down there somewhere.

A slight oddity on the map you should check out - the main staircases are stacked on top of each other, with a corridor right through the middle. If you go left from the start you pass along a straight corridor to the left again. However, if instead from the start you go up, left and down, instead of the corridor you find a staircase going up to the first floor. If you now run around in a loop above the front door (right, up, up, left, look down) you'll find a yellow door blocking a staircase to the attic.

From the start if you go down, left, up, then instead of that corridor, again, there's a staircase, this time down to the basement. From this Basement room with a table in it go left to explore the Basement, Right to the Caves, or down to go back up the stairs to the Ground Floor.

There's also another exit from the caves up two flights of stairs to the bottom-left corner of the Ground Floor, bypassing the basement.
