BBC Glasto Coverage

edited June 2016 in Chit chat
... ain't what it used to be.

DISCUSS!

Used to go on really late. Used to be all sorts of weird ****. Miss those days.

On the other hand, maybe I need to get a life?

  • Isn't until the end of headline act long enough, you want them to show the drunken festival-goers stumbling around trying to find their tents after the stage lights have gone?

    Actually...
    ...might be quite entertaining.
I wanna tell you a story 'bout a woman I know...
  • I'm sure it used to go on later, with acoustic sets and weird entertainment? The coverage just seemed rather dull tonight.

I've been noticing the coverage getting poorer in recent years, but tonight's coverage just seemed to be especially boring.

Coverage of the wierder, darker side of Glastonbury in the late night hours would probably appeal to me.

  • It's all just trustafarians and hipsters these days (and has been for a while).

  • Adele, Muse and Coldplay headlining.
Frankly, the less Glasto coverage the better!!

Apparently next year's headliners are Gary Barlow, Little Mix and Crazy Frog.

  • Theyve cut down drastically on what they show :( now its mainly the massive headliners (which are all middle of the road ****) they barely show the other stages anymore :(

Gone are the days when youd see Leftfield in the dance tent, or Faithless on the jazz stage :P

  • Watched New Order, Madness and the last 15 mins of Squeeze.

Just hope that they will repeat these later in the week/month/year, full set, to avoid the muppet presenters and having to change channel half way through.
  • Adele, Muse and Coldplay headlining.

randomly saw about 20 seconds of Adele last night. she was saying to the audience "does anyone need a piss? does anyone need a shit? dont throw your piss at me!!!". changed channel again...

I enjoyed The Orchestra of Syrian Musicians with Damon Albarn. Bit random though.

And the Underworld set was excellent, but you can't really go wrong with a bit of Underworld.

I did watch Adele last night, and she was pretty good, but I do get the idea she needs to learn when to shut up sometimes. She doesn't seem to have a filter, but that's what people like about her I guess ( though I imagine she could be bloody irritating if you met her in person). She was enjoying herself, and getting the audience to participate (albeit by tempting them to throw their p*ss at her), but still, that's better than just playing a bunch of songs and not engaging with your audience.

Adele. Very talented, but terrifically overrated.

  • Having been to quite a few festivals in my time (albeit mostly rock and metal), I don't really see Adele as a festival act. she's not going to get the crowd jumping and dancing. She's better of at The Royal Albert Hall.

I think it worked, but if I was there I would have been enjoying the weirder side of Glastonbury, and not at the back of a crowd staring at some distant screen. Not for me.

Kasabian and Arctic Monkeys were the best headliners I've seen in more recent times.

Coldplay headlining again is just boring. Just a very dull (and again, overrated) band. They've had a few nice songs, but an album of it makes me want to slit my wrists. At least this was Adele's first time headlining.

Yeah, I went to the festival in 1999 and I enjoyed the sideshows (comedy tents and weird stuff) more than the headline acts. I'd like to see more of these on the telly - but then again, having TV cameras in there would change the atmosphere of them

  • Caught some of the Madness set. Suggs is starting to look old.
    The trouble with tribbles is.......
  • To be fair on Adele she showed more personality and seems a lot more in touch with reality than last years headliner and professional numbskull Kanye West.

yeah i went between 92 and 2000 and barely went to see any of the main acts on the main stages, although i do regret some (Oasis) most of the interesting stuff was in the fields and on smaller stages / tents

just walking round you encounter all sorts of weird ****, its like being in a weird dream

  • More Red Button coverage
Dedicated coverage on BBC Two and BBC Four
Hundreds of videos available on the website

Yes, the "presentation" has not been as diverse as previous years, but there is a lot being shown.

  • Watching ELO. Hmmm.... Yes, it is a great performance, full band (hopefully playing live), but it sounds too clean. Might as well put a CD on, go into the garden, stand in a puddle , get the kids wave flags in my face and throw half full/empty tin cans around.

    Did they play Tiger Feet?

The problem these days, not just Glastonbury but all big live gigs, is there is such a complex light show that goes along with the performance that there is no room for a band to improvise or go off on a tangent. Nowadays everything is timed to the second with bands having to hit a number of marks during songs to keep everything synchronized.

I want to say that the ebbing of John Peel's influence might be somewhat responsible?

possibly a factor. there is a 'john peel' stage tho... cant find the line up for this year, but something tells me it wont be a grindcore band, followed by a spoken word artist, followed by a traditional african folk band, followed by a hardcore techno dj playing vinyl at the wrong speed

Best live act I ever saw was Underworld at Reading 20 years ago in the NME tent. Not much to look at on stage - just 3 middle-aged blokes twiddling knobs - but the atmosphere was brilliant. Better than The Prodigy.

  • Surprised Chris Evans wasn't hosting, he seems to be popping up all over the shop, usually shouting as he does. Twat.
