Download not possible

There must be something VERY VERY wrong with the web-page.
I can lock-in with no problems here - but if I try to download from BOOKS (to download) I get the 404-Error.NOT FOUND.
Likewise download from Schematics, Manuals gives the same error :-(

Can anybody tell me WHY the website had to be damaged ?
WHY did some youngsters have to put their small fingers in the code ?

It is quite some time since the web-page was moved to England - and it is still not up to working order....

It should be no problem to move a server from Holland to England - and then run it from there. But somebody had to show the World how clever they were.
The result is clear for everybody to see.....

WHEN CAN WE EXPECT TO USE A WEB-PAGE WHICH IS RUNNING SMOOTHLY AS IT DID 2 YEARS AGO ?

  • Have you tried requesting a refund?

  • Are we supposed to lock-OUT ? - Or just leave ?
    I don't see possibilities here.

Hi, download from the mirror which is here

Whilst I understand your agitation, block capitals are often considered as shouting and rather rude.

Hi young man reefering to your "Refund":
Maybe the following happened before you entered this Page ?
Some years ago i offered Martijn 100 Euro.
He did not answer. I repeated my offer asking him why he did not answered.
He wrote back the following quote "Because it was not right" unquote.

Before Martijn did answer I was scolded by several people who apperently thought Martijn could run the web-page by their Mouse-click.....

If you have access to old discussions you will find it there.
    Regards

Thank you for your reply :-)
The mirror you sent is even more useless than some of the archives in this web-page.
It is horrible. All the fancy pictures are of no use at all.

Why must young people always change everything ?
The way the archives were made in Martijn's time was much better.
    Regards

The books and magazines are currently not available from WoS. But the schematics, manuals and various other items are. The snag being you have to manually edit the URL. Details in this post.

  • Hi Tommy F-H,
Indeed the way WOS is going has to do with young age and absence of good manners.
This seems to disturb you like it disturbes me.
But there is no need to lower yourself. or your language.

At the moment I have spent weeks in scanning a certain magazine, one more week is needed. For me it is a strange thought that this work will not appaer on WOS.. It makes me ponder what the use was of all the other hours spent on scanning for WOS, hours that are now lost.
I spent a ridiculous number or hours on a stupid job. I really hate it when some here think that I (and others) therefore must be ridiculous or stupid. My contributions were ment to serve the Spectrum community, using them for personal 'power play' is abuse.

Since you raised the question Fog, I indeed wish I could I have a refund for the hours? Otherwise a bit more old fashioned respect would be suitable.

  • The initial message wasn't respectful, so what makes you think the reply would be?

  • Roko, I don't understand why you think your time has been wasted or your efforts lost. In time, WoS will be fully functional again and all of your work will benefit everyone. I can't imagine anyone thinks you are stupid for having done it, it's worthy of respect that you've dedicated your own time, over an extended period, to aid the wider community.

It would be disrespectful to ask why it took you so long and complain about it, rather like all the complaints that the current WoS team have to put up with...
  • Roko, and any others making contributions, of course it's appreciated. And I'll be as happy as everyone else when everything is working fully again. Please keep up the great work.
    No one important.

The initial message wasn't respectful, so what makes you think the reply would be?
When with 'initial message' that from Tommy-FH is ment:

The things I learned as politeness and good manners. Plus the absence of a reason for such reply.
Even more important are the normal economic issues: your reactions shape the tone of voice on this forum, like your choice of moderators does. As you sow you will reap, and all that.
More technical: You avoided to give your opinion ('not respectful'). Instead of a real answer which readers could take in, you bring a joke. While you could have done both. When being indirect becomes the new standard, and it lookes that way because moderating gets more and more indirect, then the forum as we knew it for many years is history.

When with 'initial message' my question is ment:

It often helps people when they know what 'annoyance' it is that makes them give indirect reactions. And some awareness in that field helps people in having real and fruitfull disussions.

Roko, I don't understand why you think your time has been wasted or your efforts lost. In time, WoS will be fully functional again and all of your work will benefit everyone.
The latter is an expectation which I do not share, you may prove me wrong... Why should I still spend thoughts on WOS, it is like stopping with smoking....

It would be disrespectful to ask why it took you so long and complain about it, rather like all the complaints that the current WoS team have to put up with...
I am not so much complaining. I experienced WOS forum as a open and positive community, and just pinpoint the 'elements' which (imho and clearly) degrade this open atmosphere.
I did not want to simply 'like' Tommy-FH's message as it is written. But he is mentioning issues that I hear more often, and I wanted these relevant issues named.
Plus, where 'we' are often referred to as consumers of the site who must be thankful it exists, I took the opportunity to point out that many of us are also constructors (beyond contributors) without who the database would not have its worldfamous dimensions.

You connect 'my complaint' to the workload of the team. But I don't see any connection between workload at one hand and 'my complaint' (being 'age plus manners') at the other hand. So I miss the argument there, sorry.
Of course it theoretical could be me who is changing. The grumpy old man thing, or Tommy-FH factor. But I had no complaints sofar.

The Spectrum community I know is able to understand the importance of real work.
