  • Excellent, reminds of Maziacs which was awesome !
  • I love Pippo, and it quite often gets missed out in top Speccy games lists :)
My only Speccy game (so far): a simple snake clone
  • Not mine it doesn't pippo is one of those budget games that was worth every penny, and then some.
    Every night is curry night!
  • If I have to choose not very well known titles, I'd say:

    Pheenix by Megadodo
    Pheenix.gif

    Psycho-City
    PsychoCity.gif

    Rocman
    Rocman.gif

    Nuclear Bowls
    NuclearBowls.gif

    and these covertape games:

    S.O.S.
    S.O.S.1.gif

Indiana Jones y el Idolo de Oro

    Wargame

  • Pheenix was a great game!

Pyramania! Cracking little game that ripped off, well, everything.

Braxx Bluff was also underrated I thought:

  • Braxx Bluff - a game I always wanted back in the day but never played.
How do you play it? I've tried it and I can't work it out.
  • It's quite difficult. The first stage is landing on the planet - you need to keep the dot dead centre as you descend. After that it gets a bit easier...
  • I have a soft-spot from ZZoom by Imagine.
Once of the last games I stuck on my blog.
  • Zzoom is a total gem! And we all shot the hostages, didn't we.
  • Earthshaker

    Peking

    Eric And The Floaters

    Five On A Treasure Island

    The Valley

Played these and enjoyed a lot!
    Heavy on the disasm
  • Infection, a one to four player strategy/board game, very good indeed, and a lot more interesting that it looks in the screenshot:

Think!, a one or two player strategy/board game, also very good:

Brian Bloodaxe, a platform/arcade adventure, with some nice touches, such as being able to kill enemies with the horns on your helmet, by jumping up into the enemy, drink lager to regain health, objects you drop stay where they are (even in mid-air) so you can use them as platforms to jump on, etc. It's not exactly unknown, but no one evers seems to mention it, even though it's great.

Mined-Out, a really good game that probably was overlooked due to it looking rubbish and being written in BASIC.

I stole it off a space ship.
  • Some great ones there. I'd add stop the express as well.
    No one important.
  • 3d tunnel, knot in 3d (one of my favourite ones) and Splat (specially the Sam version for the great soundtrack).

  • Infection was good. I'm sure there was an Amiga version too.
  • Out of the Shadows kept me entertained for quite some time.

It's a great board game, but frankly it works better with an hexagonal board, where it's called Hexxagon.
Creator of ZXDB, BIFROST/NIRVANA, ZX7/RCS, etc. I don't frequent this forum anymore, please look for me elsewhere.
  • Hyperaction

    Hard but very addicting game

Knot in 3D is one of the all-time greats.

  • I'll also throw in Star Trader. Even though it's a bit crap I spent hours on it.
I always ended up being killed on a planet due to civil war breaking out.

That's very impressive but what are you supposed to do ?

Remember Snake on the old Nokias? It’s like that, except you’re moving in three dimensions rather than two on a plane. And you have a cockpit view from the front of your ‘snake’. Your snake leaves a cyan / yello trail; but there’s another one in play as well leaving a red / blue trail.

When I was younger I gave this game way more attention than it deserved, I'm curious if anybody ever managed to successfully fend off the pirates in a manual space battle? It was borderline impossible.

The only way to win was to just buy lots of lasers, and have more ammo than them so you could overpower them without trying, or just make sure you had enough stuff to give them so they wouldn't kill you :))

  • I was always partial to a game of Mastertronic's Rockman:

It was a decent little puzzle game.

Yeah, you could beat them in combat by buying a sh*t load of lasers and ammo. In the end I stopped doing it because it seemed cheaper to just pay them whenever you got attacked - because half the time you would get to your planet without incident.

It did come well before Elite though so I have fond memories of it. Loved the way that you could overpower muggers if you'd eaten some massive dinners too.

  • If anyone's interested here is an article on Star Trader from 6 years ago:

  • Winged Warlords

A simple, repetitive yet very moreish Joust clone. The Death Bird thing gives me the chills.

    Thrusta

Another quick loader, this is a satisfying shoot/squash-em-up. Nice chunky graphics but the frantic, continuous sound may grate for some.
