Satan from Dinamic gets stuck at the end of the second load

edited November 2016 in Games
Hi friends, doing a longplay of this game I used the files from this site. The most of then seem to have a bug, but I'm not sure if is an emulation bug or a native bug. I've played with the mame and zxspin emus and basically, when you destroy the last flying demon damien, the final message doesn't appears, and the countdown is still running until it reaches zero and you loose the game...

The only file that worked fine was one included in one compilation, but I don't remember which one I played.....maybe Megabox 1, 2 or Metal Action...So I want to ask if somebody played this game in a real spectrum, and if this behaviour was here...

  • It's probably not a native bug. A bug preventing finishing the game is too obvious to have been missed in a 1989 release. I played the cpc version (probably a Spectrum port) on a real machine and worked okay.

Then again, RZX archive has only part 1 of the game (which is the most difficult by far) and there's no recording of part 2 in youtube either.
  • I thought Dinamic games were designed so you couldn't complete them... or even get past the first couple of screens. That was always my experience with them at any rate ;)

I owned the UK release at one point and compared it against the other versions in TAPIR to double check whether my TZX conversions were good.

There are basically 4 variations so it is possible that they revised/fixed any potential bugs in later releases (most likely when re-issued on compilations).

    (1) Original Spanish release using Dinaload.

    (2) Metal Action release which uses Dinaload and is also in Spanish but has a lot of differences data-wise according to TAPIR.

    (3) System 4 (small case) release = UK release = Megabox version = Megabox 2 version. More of a standard type loader with a few headerless blocks. In English.

    (4) Six Appeal = Different loader again and also in English. Standard loader with all of the game data in one big block.

I don't know if that's of any help but since you mentioned that "the only file that worked fine was one included in one compilation" then that would seem to me to indicate that there is a bug in at least one of the releases that was later fixed.
  • Anybody ever completed this second part? It's an important game, am I right?

I tried it once, a few years ago and failed :)

I remember it was very weird, you walk in some empty environment, searching for some single enemy that you have to defeat.

Rarely you find him but after giving him some beating he changes his form and you have to search for him again.
And then it's TIME OVER. That's what I remember.

  • It's just a matter of buying the right power-ups. Buy the throwing axe first, kill Satan, then buy the best shield (which is also a weapon). Forget about the other items. I'm not sure now, but I think you get more money if Satan is carrying a wizard when you kill him.

Thanks for your answers. Reading your post, I agree that possible it's a BTANB (an original bug) that was later detected and corrected in the later releases....Because I played the original amstrad cassete, I know the good ending of the game is a final message after defeating Satan. For those who want to see the second part completed, here's a link to my longplay:

  • Youtube says it's a hidden video (i.e can't be watched unless an url is provided). You should share ;)
  • Actually I took the advice from Lotas and tried to complete the 2nd part yesterday. And you know what, it was a quick success :)

I submitted it to Rzx Archive, it should be available soon.

Unfortunately it plays badly. The scrolling is very bad, the game is slow and the graphics are overdetailed so it's hard to see anything.

    But I did it! ;)
  • Lotas: Yes I know it's hidden. I schedule the video releases in my channel, it will be published soon, I just gave the link because Ralf requested it...

Ralf: Finally yoy get the message? What file did you used?
