A long time ago in a parallel universe far, far away....

Someone should make this.... (I got bored tonight... ;) )

  • I see Chewie on the left but what's that blob on the right?
    What now?
  • Is it that six armed alien from that Disney cartoon at the start of the century? Don't remember what it's called. Takes place in Hawaii.

You mean Lilo & Stitch...it's not that....it's basically the new Ewoks! It's a Porg!

  • It always delights me when the likes of Star Wars and Doctor Who come up with simple, easily pronounced, single-syllable names for alien races that aren't already existing words. You'd think all options would be exhausted by now.

  • A new furry feathered Ewok... probably has some type of super jedi power, squeaks mumbo jumbo, can pilot the Falcon better than Chewie, knows how to use a sonic screwdriver and can crush the new empire by a few logs and a bucket of fish heads.
You want it as a plush toy? That'll be £80 please.
  • Definitely potential for a Porg-based Speccy game...they should be relatively easy to do a decent representation of! :)
  • PC Star Wars sucks! I was very disappointed at the previous one - the first Disney production - I felt sure they'd really give it their best but it was lame, bland and predictable. After all the buildup and ballyhoo, what we got was almost a remake of the original films best bits tied together with insipid 'aren't we sensitive to the modern shift in emphasis' for which read "who cares if they can act as long as they're the PC race and gender."

I have nothing against either of the latter in the right setting but this wasn't it. The original was really a thinly disguised WW2 war film in terms of the battle scenes and gung ho 'ripping yarn' sort of hero and heroine (the rest was merely window dressing though well done and enjoyable). They've completely lost the big screen epic feel, down to the last few rounds of ammo feel and theres never been a baddie like Darth Vader to follow up with.

What a shame, what a waste of talent, what a crappy director!

Why wasn't it? If aliens can go into space why not black men and females?

And while we're on the subject of JJ Abrams, can somebody please explain to him the distance between stars and the speed of light? As evidenced in SW and Star Trek he appears to have no concept of either.

  • That's not what I said nor meant. "I have nothing against either in the right setting" is what I said. Princess Leia was a female wasn't she?

There was no continuity sense behind those choices and frankly neither is much cop as an actor, I found their roles unconvincing from the standpoint of the canon (why they are there, how they fit into the existing storyline) and their portrayal.

Look at how it starts. Its a classic. You've got a princess being rescued with the aid of an idealistic young man aided by a swashbuckling rogue with a heart of gold, advised by a wise old warrior. Standard story telling stuff. Now you tell me how these new two fit, on what basis do they belong to the storyline?

Nothing wrong with either, its unfair of me to criticize their acting considering the restraints of the script and direction. I don't know what gave J.J.Abrams the idea he's Gods gift to sci-fil films but its a delusion. I could have written better parts for them and would have loved to see them play them.

They had no fire, no real reason for being, to me they seemed very obvious cardboard cutouts dishonestly placed to satisfy probably some corporate directive that more emphasis be given to black and female leads. Neither role was convincing, in my opinion.

I think Rogue 1 successfully showed up how all three prequels and Episode 7 were just unimaginative and dull rehashes with vacuous characters.

Yes, the original was stuffed with fairly shallow stereotypes (a princess, a farmhand, a wise old man, an untouchably powerful bad guy commanding witless troops), but they're the classical stereotypes of storytelling. Qui-Gon-Jin, on the other hand, was a plank. And to come off looking shallow compared to characters originally written with all the depth of Snow White takes some seriously lousy writing.

  • Yeah rogue 1 was enjoyable
    20x better than ep7

Can't really think of a star wars game that would be any good.
  • How about that type-in in Your Computer circa. '82. It had a snow speeder and an AT-AT and it scrolled.
    Good enough for me :)

    Sod it!

But what did you mean, are you objecting to a black stormtrooper ? Personally i'd like to see more diversity in the villains, Star Wars in particular has always been poor in this regard: most of the 'bad guys' are white with English accents.

As for Rey, we don't know who she is yet or how she fits into the story.

I actually think the franchise should have been given to the team that made Rogue One and not the ones that made TFA.

  • The Force Awakens was OK, and *much* better than any of the prequel trilogy, but yes, Rogue One was better still.

Not that I'm a Star Wars fan really, but I quite like them (prequels aside, ugh!).

I've never read any of the expanded universe fan-written works, but apparently some of them are really good.
