  • Thanks Mel.

What I struggle with (as well as life ;-) ) is:-
    These questions are from 1978/79.
The same questions are being asked now - 2017 etc.
I have seen software jobs come etc, unemployment thru Thatcher era, and then employment seemed to settle down again?
We are now near record employment.
What happened to all this automation from 79 to now?
Have we just been refining it, was 79 prediction too advanced?

    Fascinating.
    Thanks again Mel.
  • I'm seeing all these people on the production line doing their thing and the Radetzkymarch is playing in my head.

Ted, can you get us some more silicon wafers? Ted, I can't get the furnace hot enough. Ted, we're out of pens in the A0 plotters. Ted, can we get more acid in the etching tank? Ted, the electron microscope's broken. Ted, the coffee machine in the canteen is serving Bovril. Ted, the head gasket's blown on the delivery van. Ted, the union is being a pain again. Ted, the bulb's blown in the boardroom projector. Ted, I don't know how to turn a printer on. Ted, can you throw these rotten turnips at the picket line? Ted, I need a Japanese phrasebook in time for the delegates from Hitachi turning up. Ted, can you get us even more silicon wafers?
