Barbarian vs Barbarian II (Palace) - Which Is Best?

Hi everyone and welcome to the November 2017 edition of the Which Is Best?
Last month I placed Nebulus and Nebulus 2 against each other, I can now reveal Nebulus 1 stormed it by 14 votes to 2, not many voted this time, maybe it's because these games can seriously drive you mad especially the first one and for many they would rather forget the pains of these games lol,...dunno why though, I myself can complete Neb1 with just one life :-D

This month I'm going to place the two Barbarian games against each other,...The Ultimate Warrior and The Dungeon Of Drax (that includes ZX versions), which do you think is the better game?!, only your votes will determine that,...happy voting! :-D

P.s, sorry but this post was also placed under the "chit chat" section which was a mistake because these two games also include the Spectrum versions,...so note to administrator, please erase the other post and not this one, thanks.

  • Oh bugger well I added my comment to the chit chat, ask for a merge rather than a delete, all your answers so far are in chit chat
    Every night is curry night!
  • I vote for Barbarian I. The second part had some technical improvements, but I never like the 'read the compass'' component of the gameplay. I'd rather have another one-on-one with a single player mode that included the monsters and, of course, a two player mode.
  • I like them both, I believe they cannot be compared since they are very different in fact. The first instalment looks and plays great but becomes too easy once you learn the forward rolling/hit etc. trick. The second has more scope and depth but can also be rather frustrating.
  • I liked both, but these days the only one I play is Barbarian. It's still a good laugh for two players too; so my vote goes to Barbarian I.
  • Both would be great without the roll and compass things.
  • I only played 2 on the C64, and wasn't a big fan of it. The original on the other hand, I enjoyed on the Speccy, 64, 464.
  • The best Barbarian is that weird icon-driven one.

Maybe not the best, but definitely better than Obliterator (which is almost unplayable because it was probably a 16 bit port designed to be played with mouse) or Droids (which simply sucks). It is also quite a good game in its own right.
  • The icon driven Barbarian is interesting and I like it, but the graphics could be much better.
  • Wow this months edition has really got everyone voting, it's fair to say whilst counting the votes up across the forums that Barb1 is winning but it has everyone showing opinions on these 2 game, great edition!
Still have till 20th to cast your votes.

Oh, a 3rd livestream will go ahead this sunday at 6pm, feel free to pop by, last week was a Spectrum livestrem, this time will be an Amiga edition consisting of a live longplay of Turrican 1 and the chance to vote a game for me to load up and play.

VOTING HAS NOW FINISHED, RESULT: BARBARIAN - 50 VOTES, BARBARIAN II - 13 VOTES,...BARBARIAN THE WINNER.
Many felt the maze play on the sequel was too confusing and resulting in getting lost causing short longevity for love of the game,...even though I personally enjoy it and mastered it ;-D

Thanks to everyone who took part, the next edition is up in the "Chit Chat" section :-)
