Started a diet

Recently i've been piling on the pounds a bit (now up to 34 inch waistline) so decided to start eatling less and better.
I've been on it a week, the first couple of days i felt terrible, lethargic and no energy but now i feel a lot better and have more energy already. I've seriously cut down on carbs - i've cut out potatoes, chips and bread (have had the occasional sandwich which is ok) and also stopped drinking sugary fruit juices (now drink water, tea or cranberry juice. I tried kale which was disgusting). Now eating more chicken, eggs, lean meats, veg, and fish.
Not cut out booze yet though! One step at a time!

You won't see pictures of anything cos i've lost my USB cable to connect to my PC and i can't be bothered posting saucers anymore anyway.

  • I’ve been on a low-carb diet for a few years now. Feels great. Don’t overdo lean meats, though, too much protein is not good for you. Animal fats are a great source of energy, so knock yourself out on them.

Don’t try to eat less—you’ll feel miserable; but do eat better. A diet should be a lifestyle, not a torture by starvation.

  • I've mentioned this before but if you want to eat healthier but lose none of the taste then try The Hairy Dieters recipes. They're all good but some of them are fabulous that I still cook regularly 6 years later - the curries are especially good.
  • Curries are always good ;)

Diet was put on hold on Saturday night as i met a girl for a few drinks, that turned into one helluva night. I lost my bank card and ended up hurting my hand from punching the ATM screen, i hurt my arm from falling off a bench (waiting for a taxi i was told, i don't remember) and i hurt my throat from shouting. I also nearly got kicked out of a nightclub for dancing too manic! I was ultra wasted so i had to stay at hers as i was no fit state to get home. Woke up next day wondering where i was with a cat staring at me.
It was all going well till she suggested shots! :))

  • Ever since i started this diet i've had nothing but bad luck health wise. Apart from the aches and pains picked up last week i now have a cold! In July! I also have an ear infection :(
    The trouble with tribbles is.......
  • I virtually cut out Crisps (have a few now and again), cut right down on booze and rarely eat chocolate or biscuits.
I eat fruit (apples, grapes, blueberries, pears or bananas) for snacks.
Been doing this for three months.
    Still haven't lost any weight.

Sorry to hear about the ear infection!

Colds are caused by viruses, not “cold weather,” so no direct connection with catching a cold in July. Ironically, only about 25 percent of cases of the common cold exhibit symptoms. Three-quarters are asymptomatic; in other words—you don’t know you have a cold more often than you do.

I used to catch a cold regularly. I then re-evaluated my general hygiene and stopped worrying about drafts, dressing warmly, and other “common-knowledge” nonsensical advice for avoiding catching a cold. Now I get it maybe once every two or three years, if that.

Apples, grapes, blueberries, pears, bananas, and other fruit are still sugars. Also, what about pasta, rice, potatoes, breads, and grains? Or sugary drinks (including juices)? Besides, if you still need snacks—whether due to actual cravings or out of habit—you’re doing something wrong.

  • It's no use having a diet if you don't make any exercise. Even something like climbing stairs daily instead of lifts may help you.
  • Yep i climb a lot of stairs every day on my way to work, i always take the stairs in multi story buildings rather than use the lift.

I still eat some pretty crappy food, but I make a conscious effort to eat better stuff. If I eat burger and chips one day, I'll make sure I eat something which has plenty of veg the next day, it's not about starving yourself in my eyes it's about balancing the shite with something good....

I've not cut down on booze, I probably should, but I drink good beer, not Bud, or Fosters, or any of that rotten pisswater, the beer I drink potentially has a nutrition count :p

But my job is very physical, and I only drink pop at work, which I no doubt burn off pretty well since I'm constantly moving.

I rarely eat snacks at all, but every now and then I'll get a craving for something really shite like a massive bag of crisps, or a whole tub of Ice-cream, and believe me I pound that sh*t when it happens...….Could be once a month, could be 6 months....Never can tell.

Bad diet or being a fat bast won't be what kills me, smoking, lack of sleep, and stress will kill me long before I get fat I guarantee it :))

Heh. Nope. Doesn’t work like that. ;)

For starters, climbing stairs is not going to make much of a dent. You’d have to do it for hours on end at a fairly vigorous pace to lose any appreciable amount of weight.

More importantly, it’ll have the opposite effect in the long run: exercise (i.e. expend extra energy)—>eat more to compensate—>gain weight.

It’s a common misconception that exercise causes weight loss. Ever heard of the phrase “work up an appetite”?
