spectrum again(for me)...after all this years!!!!

edited October 2004 in Games
Don?t know why but decided to try an emulator, i thought i was just pass some minuts and then let go.., but, i don?t know if its only nostalgia, what happen its im liking a lot playing this zx spectrum games , i had a 128 k just like the one this site have in the front page (was my favorite from the spectrum models), .. so i see theres many people here in the forum, i see there?s a lot sites too on the spectrum, ..so why ..whit this emulators , don?t continue developing games for spectrum, new ones, there?s some really old good games that proves people can do very good things in terms of graphics, and maybe developing the emulators too , whit more capacity than the real machines, in order to do better games , ..but not loosing the "soul" of zxSpec.., maintaining the same graphics style, whit better "stories, arguments..etc...
thanks, its just a thought , nothing more...

And oooh, my Ragnar Revival game (www.demesta.com/ragnar), though I had to put it on hold for a while, finishing off a couple of dissertation chapters before x-mas. But I WILL complete it. I must. Got movement and physical laws working now at least, along with room compression.

    You made the walls smaller?

    D.

No, same size on the isometric blocks (if that's what you mean), but instead of storing the room as 1 byte/block position (which would take 8x8x6=384 bytes per room, plus additional data for the room), the room data is "zipped" using control codes for drawing "sheets" or "lines" of blocks in any 3d-direction (or individual blocks), thus making a very simple room only a couple of bytes large. Pretty clever I reckon - the 48k game could then contain 200+ different rooms of 8x8x6 block positions.

haha, I think Dunny knew what you meant, but just wanted some further details...

By the way, putting the game on hold is perhaps a good idea, even though you`ve had to, as you know it often gives you more time for extra ideas...

Best wishes, I still look forward to it with much anticipation :)

Ooh, D pulled my leg! Didn't see that coming, engrish nog being my native lang! :)

Yes, CKay, I agree on inspiration there. I will also write a little javaprogram for room designing so I don't have to byte in all those rooms into the game manually...

Infact Spectrum games (both old and new) out sell PS2 and Xbox games by 10 to 1 these days ;)

Sony and Microsoft are really getting worried as they should be. Retro gaming rule!!!
