Where? On planet Zarkon?!? Zarkonian Pounds, is that?

This is one of the more ludicrous auctions I have seen! Yet another zero rated trader jumping on the "retro" bandwagon, selling something without conducting any research whatsoever!

I hope they come back down to Earth with a resounding thud. Either that, or I'm sitting on an absolute goldmine of Sinclair hardware myself. A nice nest-egg for my early retirement! Now, whats the number for that security guard firm... :)

I messaged him a sarcastic one saying was it made out of gold or something !

I mean i dont mind people selling retro things to make some money as you dont know their situation but this auction ? Come on !

Its probably cost him about 6 quid to list it with a high starting price and even a reserve !!! With a reserve set why on earth didnt he just put it at a pound starting price ??? At least he would get bids. Crazy

    ;)
...and a good way to start out with 0 feedback.

Submitted the following question to help him out.

Real honest value you should hope to get bids on is around about ?50 for an unboxed zx81 ( I have sold a few at this price privatly), top rate condition model with good box and all polys around ?100. Otherwise you will just be waisting the listing cost I am sad to say. Now an original ZX80 (not 81) with all polys might fetch around ?200. Best of luck with your future auctions.

    All the best

If I get any reply I will keep you posted :) (I have 7 zx81`s with around 4 boxed and in reasonable condition, hmm could do with a new car!)

A work colleague has a ZX81 (still boxed) which he has kindly let me borrow. I never actually used one back in the day, and the experience was interesting. It has a 16K RAM pack, and it was great to see "RAM pack wobble" at first hand after hearing so much about it.

I had to connect my old ghettoblaster up to it in order to load my only surving Sinclair game (Gulpman, which has the Spectrum version on one side, and the ZX81 version on the other). Fascinating stuff!

Anyway, ramble over. I keep telling him to keep the ZX81 because it will only increase in value over time. Do you think I'm giving him good advice?

Tell him the bottom has fallen out of the retro caper, and it ain't worth much now. Then offer him an eight-pack of beer for it.

It wouldn't work because he's a Mormon (no booze allowed!). I have enough machines cluttering up this place as it is anyway! Maybe if it was a Spectrum 48K things might be different........
