bug - Crystal of Power (TXT Adv)

edited April 2019 in Games
You can explore about 20 locations, but game crashes if you go from start:
E, E, S, S, S.
To same location (bug) you can go on alternative route:
E, E, E, NE, SE.

Maybe bugfix is not hard to find? Can anyone try to "patch" this?

Both, Z80 and TZX, had same "feature".

I was hoping it was quilled (not difficult to fix usually iirc) but then thought it was Quill+Illustrator+Patch/Press but I'm not 100% sure it is, attempting after I'd turned it into both a .tap then a .sna to extract it to its raw source failed, does not think its a Quill game. I don't think its GAC based.
  • Hi,

Put $CD value to $EE2F memory address and play well :) It was a bad byte ...

    Excellent thanks. I can expand on this a fraction :) $EE2F = 60975 / $CD = 205 , so:
    36 POKE 60975 , 205
    50 MERGE "" : RUN

Don't renumber! Load/type in/run that, then the main tape .tzx

Hopefully that is also a little bit helpful.

  • Pgyuri , well done!
    spider, thanks for help too!

Thanks to you guys, now we can try to find a solution for the game :)
(titles from that publisher are not so hard and not so long for playing - CASA is waiting for us ) ;)

  • Have a nice play - I'm too weak in text adventures :)

I have a 'little' problem with this byte:

    Loaded value: $CF 11001111
    Corrected value: $CD 11001101

You can see only one bit made the mistake!

But how did it happen ?

    * we can declare it was not the TZX maker's miss, the parity byte is correct (no R Tape loading error).
    * we can declare the master tape was perfect (unfortunately with the naughty byte).

Fantasy made the game. Loaded into a Spectrum (oops, one bit mess). Saved master copy.

Did they have only bad luck? Just an injured cassette? Okay, I understand nobody used verify command too much but no 3 times checking before sending the master tape?

    Hmmmm...
