Age of Empires 4 ??? - any news

edited October 2019 in Chit chat
Been waiting for some info on this for nearly two years. Would love to know what Age its set in at least - whether it going to be modern 19th / 20th century or some other historic era. I'm surprised something more hasn't slipped out.

I've seen the official trailer - nicely done but it was just a recap of the whole series using art from each AOE. I could be wrong but I very much doubt this has any bearing on what this new AOE will contain. Latest info on it I found was an article from June this year, and it had absolutely nothing more to say about it than was already known. Pity they announced it so soon. Perhaps there will be more news on it when AOE 2 Definitive Edition comes out in November.

Oh, I didn't know they still were making Flight Simulator. The last one I had was Flight Sim 2000 I think.

Just had a look. WOW looks amazing - but no way my PC (if it was working) would be anywhere near powerful enough to acheive those visuals. I wonder what set up these demos are running on? Probably an Intel Core i9 and very high end graphics card.

But this is a game that's been just announced this year and already we are getting reveals of it, while AOE 4 was announced 2 years ago and there has still been practically nothing revealed, not even in words as to what era it will be.

  • Is this another one of those Kickstarters that ran away with the backers money?

I suspect it will eventually be released.

But revisting an earlier era going to disappoint some people who hoped for something new. AOE 3 was a significant step forward in many ways, particularly the addition of Home Cities. So I am wondering what this will introduce in terms of new gameplay?

I hope it is as the series is on my top 5 list. Mind you..I can't agree AOE 3 was a step forward at all. It was fine, it was fun..but it lost the large world feeling of the first two. For me it felt confined, too structured and too repetative. It's a very good game..but AO3 just didn't have the magic for me. I sometimes go back to AOE2 for a game and give huge resources to see if I can hold out against 1000 persian elefants..but I have never picked up AO3 in many a long year. Still..I'm interested in this Ao4..completely..yes.
I stole it off a space ship.

Its probably over 15 years since I played the original AOE. AOE 3 had the new aspect of the home city not previously in the first two games, that added new level of interest to the gameplay for me. The graphics and animation were greatly improved over the earlier games. In those respects at least it signified an step forward, but as you say the gameplay didn't feel quite the same, and it lost something of the large world feel of the first AOEs.
