OT - PVRs

edited October 2004 in Sinclair Miscellaneous
Anyone got one?

I'm interested in getting one because my VCR keeps chewing up tapes and shutting down when it tries to record - which is most unhelpful for timer programs. I would consider getting a new, basic, VCR but frankly they are ludicrously overpriced for such old tech. I would buy second hand but then I might end up with the same situation with a duffer.

I did see an interesting site about building your own PVR http://www.byopvr.com

What do some of the more electronically minded members of the board think about this? I have been pondering how much work/cost it would be to implement the most basic PVR system - simple input signal from SCART, basic software encoding and functionality, small HD capacity.

It's not actually a PVR, but I recently got a Lite-On DVD recorder. They're for sale for ?150 in Index now, mine was ?175 - typical timing. Anyway, it's excellent, especially if you splash out on a DVD writer for a PC at the same time and get a simple MPEG editor, because anything you want to keep can be edited to remove adverts and things. Match that up with Sky digital and you end up with excellent recordings and you'll never buy a DVD of a TV series again =)
