Raspberry PI in a Spectrum 48k+ case Keyboard Options

Hi, I was lucky enough to get an empty Spectrum 48k+ Upgrade Kit Case on eBay. This is good because it doesn't involve taking apart a good Spectrum and it has the serial number "Upgraded" on bottom. The 48k+ case has slightly more space to fit in a Raspberry Pi compared to the original 48k case. The only problem is I need a way to connect the keyboard to a USB Device.

This would have been ideal:

I contacted Tynemouth Software but their store is closed for the foreseeable future :(

The membrane cables were always very fragile on the 48k\48k+ so I need a solution that is easy to maintain (if the ribbon cables deteriorate) and convert the keyboard to a USB device that a Raspberry Pi emulator can use. Any suggestions?
