Throne of Fire - your thoughts?

This looks interesting, no idea whats going on though. I vaguely remember it back in the day

Funny thing was I seen it and thought of Dark Scepter, and sure enough, although the two games look a bit different, Mike Singleton was credited with game design.

  • I played it back in the day and although I still quite like it, I reckon it's a bit "light" compared to other titles by Mike Singleton.

There is no noticeable difference between the three factions, they all play the same. Also, the game turns easier if you manage to occupy the throne room, since all castle guards will turn to your side. Just remember to try to command your prince mostly and let him take health potions and weapons whenever needed - if he dies, it's Game Over.

    so, did you play it?
    is it a quest ?

I think I played it once back in the day, but cannot remember very well - I think it was meant to be a real time strategy game - but one that could be played completed in a single session. I have only been looking at Youtube clips of it.

  • Bought this and played this to completion. Really nicely designed unique game, but it is too easy.
I’ve yet to try it with two human players.

Highly recommended but only after reading the manual.

Yeah , I suppose the AI is a bit weak on one player.

    Nice animations though.

I think it might have been intended to be less complex, he was catering to a group of gamers who wanted something that could be played through quicker, which retained some of the atmosphere and ideas of his more complex strategy games.

  • I liked it, it was definitely a bit easier and lighter than Mike Singleton's other (brilliant) games, but I probably played it more for that reason. You could reasonably expect to load up Throne of Fire and play it through a couple of times in one sitting, whereas I found Dark Sceptre, for example, almost impossibly intimidating.
