Drought

Now that large parts of the UK are facing drought conditions and hosepipe bans are you all doing your bit to help conserve water? I've started to shower every second or third day and i'm also washing dishes once a day - i put things into soak then do them in one go in the evening rather than the two or three times i usually would do them. The South East has seen little to no rain for weeks.
Seems the only part of the UK that is getting decent amounts of rain is the Highlands but where i live in the Central belt we need rain soon. The Monklands canal is the lowest i've ever seen it.
Other countries are the same such as France. It's getting worrying.

  • Drought? It's rained half the week. I planned to paint my shed but every day I've tried, including today, it's been wet. It was nice on Monday so I cut some of the grass before the clouds came over, and it started raining when I was doing the other half yesterday. NE Scotland is a long way from drought.
  • As i said the Highlands is fine but down here in the Central Belt it hasn't really rained much for weeks. We had one deluge about 2 weeks ago then since then barely anything.

  • I'm peeing into tins and telling the kids it is apple juice. :))

I'm using a watering can for the garden.
I never wash the car much anyway, it ends up dusty the next day. Keeping my showers short.
    Sod it!

I heard fairly heavy rain last night here in NI.

I take it you use one of those water de-salting contraptions, then add some sugar ... ~O)
  • K's cider tastes like pee.

It's like they just looking to scare everyone at every opportunity for some reason. Mind you I hate having no water. You know what it's like. Blah blah, ahh water. water is cut off....5 mins later. OH MY GOD..I'm dying of thirst! I want a cup of tea. I may have to boil some water out the bog. Help, I'm dying of dehydration..10 mins later, oh look the water is back on. Phew.
I stole it off a space ship.
  • Rain? What’s that then? Not had much of that in the last five weeks…

But, no prospect of any hosepipe ban in my area. Our water company has a really good supply.

Hence today I did happen to wash the car. Unfortunately the amount of bird poo was getting too much :(

It rains hard every afternoon for about and hour here in Western North Carolina. Maybe I should bag up and send you some of my surplus water.

  • We had a light shower earlier on but it didn't amount to much. It's very cloudy so it might rain a bit later. I heard next week another heatwave is on the cards.

  • I haven't washed my car since April but that's not unusual. I wash it weekly in winter to get the salt off it.

Reservoirs are still 60% full around these parts so no hosepipe ban yet.

I heard there are some strange rules for hosepipe bans. If you have a new lawn, you're allowed to water it despite a ban. You can also fill up your hot tub but not a paddling pool, apparently.

I've a few butts in the garden so if it gets really bad, I'll have to start boiling that to drink :D
  • Think Thames Water will be next to impose a hosepipe ban days after losing thousands of gallons of water due to a water main bursting.

You can if you wear a Burberry cap and a Kappa tracksuit.
