Paul McCartney is a great songwriter but his bass playing is plain and a bit old fashioned in 2012.
Mark King is one of the best bass players i have heard, his playing is amazing, he can play some great funk lines.
    The trouble with tribbles is.......

Suprised nobody has nominated Goldie - he plays Drum and Bass...

    Drums: Cozy Powell
    Bass: Billy Gould
    Rhythm Guitar: Brian May
    Lead Guitar: Nuno Bettencourt
    Vocals: Freddie Mercury
  • Rebelstar, Paul McCartney on bass?

Seriously, though, point me to a Beatles / Wings tune that has some good bass fret frottage and I might change my mind about The Luckiest Man Alive (Tm).

Doubt it though but you never know. :-)

Well I really like the bass line in Paperback Writer.

At this precise moment in time (likely to change every 10 minutes or so)...

    Vocals: John Gourley
    Lead guitar: John Frusciante
    Rhythm guitar: Omar Rodriguez Lopez
    Bass: Trevor Dunn
    Drums: Deantoni Parks

... and I think that line up would actually work really well together.

Loved him from the moment I first heard "Everythings Ruined"...you know the bit, after the piano when the thumping bass kicks in...

    Perfection.

You seeing them at this Sonisphere doo-dah?

    ;-)

I've loved him since I first started playing bass and thus paying attention to basslines instead of riffs - around the time Angel Dust came out. Then I discovered the Chuck Mosely stuff and my Faith No More addiction was in full swing. :)

No, I think Sonisphere has been cancelled this year. They announced a gig at Hammersmith, tickets sold out in seconds and then appeared on eBay for 3-4 times their face value. Wasn't impressed. But then Deadpan alerted me to an extra date at Brixton, and I managed to get tickets for that instead.

Deadpan, dude, I'll make one of these tickets spare if you can get down to London - you've certainly earned it! :)

Angel Dust is great, don't think any of their other albums come close (imo)

can't settle on a serious answer so I'm going a bit leftfield here

    Posh Spice - vox
    Nick Drake - guitar
    Lemmy - bass
    John Bonham - Drums
    Frank Sidebottom - keyboards/backing vox

I'd like to hear that. probably wouldn't fork out for the album though

Would definitely be an interesting team up. As for the album might be very avant garde so will be quite amusing.

I'm tempted to sample a bit of music from each one and do a mash-up...

ok here's the only known studio recording of the supergroup Led Pumpkin :-)

couldn't find any audio of Lemmy playing bass, probably wouldn't have made a difference anyway tbh

That is pretty spectacular. Clearly would've gone on to achieve great things had they stayed together.

yeah way too many egos in that band, they were doomed from the start

I might have a go at other people's suggestions if I think I can come up with sumat.. (too much time on my hands? never)
