  • I knew those weird sequential beeps my Speccy would make when it crashed sometimes were coded messages!

The loading sounds themselves sounded like a secret code sometimes. Eventually I could tell if a block of zeros was loading, also the sound of attributes when the screen was loading always had a distinctive sound, probably to do with all the bytes being within a certain range of values.

  • A couple years ago someone posted an article about pirate TV broadcasts in Poland in the 1980s. I can't remember if they said they used a Spectrum or a Timex computer, but it was part of the equipment.

Regarding the loading sounds, I too have specific sounds stuck in my memory. The first 6144, the attributes, the system variables and the UDGs between 65368 and 65535.

    Found it: https://idlewords.com/2007/04/tv_solidarity.htm

edit: I shouldn't call it Pirate TV, since it was an overlay. But it's an interesting read.
