Doom has such potential for a great movie, but it aint gonna happen like that is it?

What would they do with JET SET WILLY?

-A Multi-millionair (Bruce Willis) Discovers that his mansion hides a dark secret...

    "Mutha-F*****s"

    -The central caverns have opened...

    "Bastards!"

-And only his gun-totting house maid (Kirsten Dunst) can help him blow them all back to hell!

Hmmm. I'd say its got just as much chance as the others.

Given that Jet Set Willy has quite a surreal setting (although most of us who have grown up with it might find it pretty ordinary), I would suggest Tim Burton as director.

Note sure about Bruce Willis as main character. I have never imagined Willy in a torn and bloody t-shirt, running around with a gun and shooting at will. I always thought the point of the game was different. Then again, I never actually completed it, so maybe it's a misconception on my side. :)

Well lets not instantly write it off as a blunder as at this stage we havent seen one trailer or anything.

Doom could be a very good film, Resident Evil surprised me and was half decent. If they turn Doom into a great horror film like Aliens or in the mould of Pitch Black it could work. If they turn it into a big Hollywood thing for the teens then i think it'll be rubbish.

I reckon Jim Carrey would make an excellent Miner Willy.

    Also...

Harrison Ford or Ewan McGregor playing Sabre Man in "Return to Castle Knight Lore."

    Jim again playing Technician Ted.

Lee Evans playing Hen House Harry in a bizzarre plot in which he has to collect all the eggs within a time limit, or else he's in big trouble, or something. And each egg is a character from the Dizzy games.

    Er, I'll get me coat...

Manic Miner - The Motion Picture

Starring Eric Idle as Miner Willy, Ben Kingsly as Eugene and Arnold Schwazenegger as The Blue Mutant Telephone.

    It could work :D

Or maybe Skool Daze starring Ant n dec... or not.

Oh, and you forgot the game to film gem that is 'House of the Dead' and 'Alone in the Dark' comes out soon too....

Still, there is a feature film version of Aeon Flux coming out in the autumn, now that SHOULD be good :D

Ooooh, you KNOW it's gotta be shit when Dexter Fletcher is the only name in the cast-list that you've ever heard of... :(

That said, the boy did very well in Band of Brothers!

    From the IMDB:

When a Special Ops squadron answers a distress call from a science lab on the planet Olduvai, their investigation reveals that a series of mutant beings are systematically killing off the population there...

Doesn't sound like THE DooM that we all know and love... similar, but not the same...

Still, if someone ever films THE DooM, the music is already done. :) (I especially like the end-game music in the original game.)

I never make misteaks mistrakes misyales errurs — oh, sod it.

I think they should make a film version of Jack and the Beanstalk.

It would have Don Estelle playing Jack and Christopher Biggins as the giant..and I'm sure I could find a part for Christopher Lillicrap somewhere.....

A documentory version of Jack the Nipper would be good to highlight the problems with ADHD...which I'm sure used to be called hyper activity.....and how, by simply allowing the child to run ammock can calm their disruptive tendensies and create a lovely angelic child....or lock them in a room like the one in Ahhh Didumms!!!!!!
    Sausages is more important

Ah the Doom movie is finally getting closer to release: I remember hearing about a Doom movie back when Quake was first being released. Or was it even before then and when Doom 2 was out?

What a bunch of no-mark actors they've picked. Really high quality stuff. I remember when they were wondering if Arnie would be in the lead roll. Instead, the most wooden actor with the permanently arched eyebrows in LOTR is given top billing (Eomer), and Dexter Fletcher from Press Gang is in it! I wonder if it will be worse than the Wing Commander movie - surely one of the worst game to movie attempts of all time (Street Fighter, Mario Bros are other contenders).

As to Spy Hunter - eh? That is the worst case of cashing in on an established brand... albeit not a massive one and not one that the majority of the gaming world care for other than in a slightly nostalgic way. John Woo doing the directing? Lots of pointless and cheesy slow motion camera shots, explosions, near misses, over the top nonsense then. Hope it flops.

Now that you mention it ... I do remember reading about that way back in maybe '95-'96.

Our Cinema had the Doom movie poster up when "Wing Commander" came out. Any idea what year that was?
  • edited February 2005
    methinks wing commander was 1999.

so, this year were going to have -

    Alone in the dark
    Bloodrayne
House of the dead ( poos str8 to DVD )
    Spy Hunter
    Doom

Personally, i think the only good ones will be alone in the dark and doom.

well, when i say doom, I hope it's good. the two chaps behind it aparently have gone through a lot to get it made and never given up on it. so fingers crossed.

I personally have not seen Alone in the dark but a couple of my friends said it was the worst movie ever(along with just about every movie critic out there). It lasted only 2 weeks in the local movie theater. Which means I get to see it in the $1 theater within a month or so. I will be going to see it no matter how crappy it may be but only because I liked the games.
