I saw him - (From a distance) at Monsters of Rock Festival at Donnington in 1981.

Crikey. Peely first, now Vancey. God rest his soul. He had the scariest voice in the world. Not many people can say that. I used to listen to his top 40 countdown in the 80s - he gave a sense of immediacy and importance to the proceedings, like this week's number one was the most important thing on earth. Unforgettable.

yep i was proper gutted, he did a great show on c5 called dumber and dumber with stupid video clips, he would slag them off and say class stuff. once a big sea lion was smashing up a car. and he went in his gravelly voice, "look at that otter!"

We hired him back in the early 90's to do a voiceover on a computer demo. Great to work with and such an amazing voice !

Real sad, 'no more TV on the radio', the Friday Night Rock Show was required listening back in the 80's, it was the only way you could hear anything new before you bought it. The guy was a complete legend.

They say these things come in threes, John Peel, Tommy Vance...
I hope Bob Harris is feeling fit and healthy...
I wanna tell you a story 'bout a woman I know...

My mate sent me a text telling me on the day he died. Couldn't think of anything to reply except "Aw shit".

It's a shame when you lose someone like him suddenly, worse when you lose two.

Peel and Vance were both just in their 60s too :(
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Don't be too sad. It's Noel Edmonds turn next. Heh.

I dread when someone like him dies, we'll have countless repeats of the crap he used to present on tv.

Dennis Norden is one of the worst in my view, how they even give him that job still i cant believe it. They must have to prop him up with a stick and wait ages for him to give those cheesy punchlines. Cant stand that bloke

    Yeah - poor old Tommy.

I'm another who used to listen to the Friday Rock Show in the 80's - it was one of the only places that you could get to hear great new metal bands.

I used to watch his Classic rock show on VH-1 too.

In a world where music is being taken over by manufactured shite and crappy dance stuff, we needed people like him and John Peel to balance things out.
