    oops,.. then R-Type..
  • edited March 2005
    That's right...

All games labeled Activision and Electric Dreams Software are gone!

Let's pray they will return someday!

(Holds hands over head) , wait for the anti-Activision backlash !!

I think its a good thing in a way , Ghostbusters on the Speccy was awful ! ;)
  • edited March 2005
Their games based in movies were a bit crap,.. even Aliens imo.

R-Type, EnduroRacer and Rampage are the games I will miss.

  • edited March 2005
Spindizzy, Tempest and The Eidolon were amongst my favourites from their back catalogue.

Damn shame. I hope this isn't turning into a trend with seemingly more companies denying their games.

  • edited March 2005
I hope Activision will actually do something with their retro catalogue now.

Denying the distribution after this long might be because they're wanting to make money off it.
Oh, no. Every time you turn up something monumental and terrible happens.
I don’t think I have the stomach for it.

Nothing announced on WOS yet, until then...

    Yeah,

Activision wants to make money out of their old games. However, Gamestage is still waiting for an official notice styating that they really own all Activision / Electric Dreams Software rights.

It was said that some Vivid Image's games published by Activision are not Activision's property. Let's wait and see what happens next.

Notice that this headline was put rather sensationalist and only talks about the site GameStage.

No need for anyone to get their panties in a twist - we haven't received any answer from them in any of our attempts, but they did allow free distribution to Back2Roots.
So we have a 'yes' and a 'no' handed to external locations.

Also, I didn't see a shred of evidence on the site; I may overlook it, but all I see is a very short news item. No mail messages, authentication or other supporting material, so for all I know it could even be a hoax...
Who initiated the communication? Did Activision speak themselves or did another company speak on their behalf? How was it done (mail/telephone/fax)? etc etc.
  • edited March 2005
I think we're gonna need a bit more hard evidence than a 3 line news item on a minor speccy site.
I wouldn't take any notice of it personally, having looked round the www.gamestage.net site, half the site is not working and it hasn't even got a working forum, so why Activision would contact them and not Martijn is beyond me.

Still, I hope Retro Gamer Magazine will come up with something Activision-wise. They have to pay the rights to put a company's back catalogue of old games on their coverdisc, but then it doesn't cost much for the general public to play them. Imagine playing all the 8-bit Activision games for ?5.99, and get a free mag!

Still, I was lucky that I won the Spectrum version of Predator on eBay. That was also by Activision!

I reckon that they will probably bring out one of those direct tv plug in units, doubt it will be spectrum based though

    Hello,

I don't see the point thaty somne of your are doubting such a perfected website such as Gamestage.
It may be a "minor" speccy site, but it is certainly very professional and well done. Minor is a wrong word for it.

Anyway, it seems that Activision did officially stated to them that their games are denied for free distribution. Why doubt it? Gamestage has proved to be an excellent site all over its existence. Probably Activision will pop out to warn WOS and more!

    Let's get ready for them.
  • edited March 2005
    So in other words...

GET THEM WHILE YOU STILL CAN!

I'm sorry but minor is the word for it, more than half of the website if not working.
Anyone can can code a flashy website, but you need some substance behind the flashiness, of that I see nothing even the forum is yet to be up and running.

This question has been asked before but where is the proof of Activision's denial, all we've seen so far is a couple of lines in a news item, on WOS we get to see the documentation sent to Martijn. For all we know it could be a hoax, proof IS required.

    Hi there!

You're being too rude with Gamestage. You should not insult them because they are the ones loking for authorisations too. Guys like them do the best they can for the Speccy.. and best of all for YOU and me!!

Besides, it's just not fair saying that half of the site is not working! 20% of it is not working! I guess that you just don't get too fair in your life. Take a rest. You need some holidays. No offense. ;)

Gamestage has certainly not imaginated all that about Activision. The reason is that they removed their games and Electric Dreams' ones. They are denied now. They are not stupid. Of course they'd love to have them on-line. Be reasonable. When sites like Gamestage start getting down... all other will!

Let's just help speccy sites to become stronger with our support! Let's not throw them stones!

HAIL WOS... HAIL Gamestage! They are so far I've seen the best speccy sites around!

Damn... does that mean that I'm going to prison? cos I've got one of those Systema TV Boy consoles, with loads of Activision Atari 2600 games on it (with the Activision logos mysteriously blanked out).

Double Damn... and ARGOS will have to close too for selling them...

And if ARGOS closes, the chavs and hood-rats of England will have nowhere to buy their jewellery, and subsequently will have to spend their income support on more glue.

Horses will have to be killed to cope with the massive increase in demand for glue.

The world will collapse! Chaos and Anarchy will prevail.

Phoenix (Paulo), why are you talking about GameStage like it's just a site you visit ('they', etc) while you own and run it yourself entirely?
Is that so you don't have to show any proof while asked repeatedly or do you reckon it puts you in an easier position to advertise GameStage?

You'd never catch the guys at www.sinclair-heaven.net doing that!

Great site too. Must be run by a genius.

But the Activision April fool should have been today, not last week!

    ...

LOL, I was wondering that myself! Maybe Phoenix has a multiple personality disorder?
  • edited April 2005
As I suspected Phoenix runs Gamestage, on the other hand that puts Phoenix in the perfect position to show the proof he's received from Activision yet he won't.
    Conspiracy theories anybody??

Secondly I wonder where Phoenix (Paolo) got all his games, images and other data from for his minor Speccy website...

Well I like the look and feel of the site, so well done Pheonix.

However, in the awards section it mentions content, but looking through much of it, it appears to have come from other sites, WoS included. This map looks farmiliar :)

A few of the inlays match the 388 pixels high spec, according to my guide :).

I certainly like the 8-bit platform comparisons....

Hmm, just caught eye on this in your copyrights section:
"Dear visitor, every single work presented to you in this site, such as images, sounds, texts, animations or any other materials, are copyrighted by Spellcraft Developments?."

    Surely this is inacurate ?

Following Andy's comment I did actually bother to visit the site and I must say it looks quite good! But as Andy points out, some issues remain...

Can anyone spot the givaway sign that Andrew suspects points to this map being lifted from WOS?

    Hello everyone...

It is extremely rude to point out a finger to the wrong person. Instead of being shooting against Paulo (owner of Gamestage) you should do it to me. I'm not Paulo, but his long time friend.

I do, in fact, have a stright contact with him and he doesn't even know that I post here. So, guys... you all were wrong pointing a finger to Paulo!

Besides Martijn, Paulo says you are a friend of him... but here you really don't seem to be acting like one. sorry.

Anyway, if some of you are interested to contact Paulo directly about Activision, please do so using this e-mail: gamestage_online@yahoo.com

    Thanks to everyone.
    LOVE Speccy!
