Now don't be silly and don't offend the people in here and their intelligence - the title of the thread, which, you should notice, is placed between two quotation marks, is simply the title of the article linked in the first post - which has been written by a guy which never posted here and, hence, don't belong to this community.
A line quoted between two quotation marks is not a statement itself, but it's the reporting of somebody's statement.
And I think I know: I am the one that opened this thread.
Try to think better before writing, next time.
Oh really, two quotes explain everything. And this text is placed in title, just by accident and he "not a statement itself".
Dont make me laugh, thats cheap excuse is much more offensive than anything i read here.
No, it's not been placed by accident, in fact.
As I , and Karingal, already pointed out the title of the post is the actual title of the article.
So now you're not offending us.
You're just offending your own intelligence.

This is a thread that may have been provocative and disturbing if posted in a Commodore related forum, but - surprise, surprise - this isn't a Commodore forum!
So there is really no reason for people like you to come here and childishly moaning about the ones you consider spectrum fanatics.

i was right about the CPU load needed to software scroll the screen wasn't i...?
Yep, it's one hell of a pain. Hardware double buffering can help but then you've dedicated 32K to the display! :(
How reliable is CTRC hammering then, will something "simple" like Mission Genocide or Zarkon (since i rather like that one) work on every machine or are there exceptions?
It'll work on all CPC monitors. Simple stuff like vertical scrolling should work through a modulator as well.
The trouble with things like the original Savage routine (which would've been closer to what you see in things like Prehistorik 2) is that they start interfering with display timings (VSYNCS etc). It's easy to check they won't damage the Amstrad monitors, but there were concerns (which may have been unfounded) about TVs potentially exploding...
i'm considering trying to code something on the Beeb but haven't got around to looking closely at the hardware, but from memory it's not the same model of CTRC and only offers eight colours onscreen with a fixed palette rather than sixteen from a bigger palette...?
It's the same chip, however the CPC only uses it for generation of the monitor signals and (in a slightly bodged way) generation of screen addresses. The actual display encoding and colour palette handling is all done by the CPCs Gate Array.

*cough* Amstrad 6128+ *cough*
nuff said.
And when exactly did the Amstrad 6128 become part of the spectrum line of products?
Even so...
Amstrad 6128
160 x 200 with 16 colors
320 x 200 with 4 colors
640 x 200 with 2 colors
Commodore C128
160x200 / 320 x 200 / 640 x 200
16 colors in all modes.
Oh my, seems your Amstrad needs to head back to the gym.

i wonder why it was so rare to scroll that way then? Something like Mission Genocide looks pretty cool on a tech level so a game with the same sort of graphical detail as Dominator perhaps, with silky smooth vertical scrolling would be really nice... =-)

I've just bought a 6128+ on ebay (albeit with a shagged disc drive) - hoping to get a 3.5" floppy working on it when I get a spare moment so that I can try a few things out.
Trouble is there is so much else going on at the moment that the little spare time I get I'm rarely in a coding mood. Hopefully things will calm down a bit towards the end of summer - failing that, anyone know a good cloning machine?

I know what you mean, I've got about 6 projects on the go at the moment including 2 in progress coding projects, 1 in the design stage, an interview for ZX Shed, some other ZX Shed stuff, some scanning stuff, at least 2 music projects...
Damn!!! Thats more than 6 projects, can you lend me the cloning machine when you're done with it, Andy?
