Northampton

edited June 2005 in Chit chat
I've noticed that there's a healthy discussion about Inverness in another thread, and frankly, I'm feeling very left out. It seems that everyone and his cat has some anecdote to tell about the town in the cold north. I thought I'd start a thread about my own (soon to be ex) town of residence just to cheer myself up.

Come on people - share your experiences of Northampton! I'll start the ball rolling...

Damn, can't think of anything interesting to say. :(

It's funny you should mention N'thmptn today as I was there at around 3am this mornin'.

"It's not too bad here, quite nice", I said.

    "You what?" replied my co-driver "It's a f***ing dump!"

    True story!

From my experiance the phrase "Shit Tip" comes to mind.

I was working there at the time though so thats probably why I have bad memory's of it.

What about 'The Sizzling Sausage'! I bet Inverness hasn't got one of those!

"Right, now for our puddin'" said my mate.

"Why we goin' outside then?" I asked. "I thought you said we are havin us puddin'"

"Follow me", he said. "All will be revealed"

"You've had the sizzling sausage, now it's time to sizzle yer sausage!"

    *Examines the puddin'* :o

"Can you lend us a fiver?", I asked.

"You havin' the whole caboogle then?",he enquired grinning.

Fully replenished we then headed homeward bound along the A5199.

Note: I may or may not have made the whole of that story up.

I have never been to Northampton. Couldn't even point out its general location on a map. I, like many Scots am wilfully ignorant of the geography of England. In my 26 years I've only spent five days there. In Blackpool, which admittedly may not have been the best place for forming first impressions.

I'm sure Northampton is very nice though and if I'm ever south of the border again (unlikely: I hate travel and despise holidays) I shall make efforts to visit.

    Cordially,

I rode 20 miles to a CZ dealers in Norhtampton, to get a service manual for my CZ-350, and they laughed at me, becuase it was the worse model CZ ever made, and was bascially two different bikes cobbled togehter, with a 6v wiring loom, where all the wires were red.

No redeeming features at all; I've spent the last two hours trying to think of some.

I wouldn't waste your time; you'll just be more disappointed than you ever have been before. I wouldn't mind visiting Inverness myself, mind you. If nothing else because I've never been that far north before. I hear there's sunlight 24 hours a day there at this time of year. :p ;)

This is true, on a cloudless night at this time of year there is always light in the sky. Actually I hadn't considered it till you mentioned it. However the outrageous weather conditions at all other times of the year tend to take the edge off the pleasure. I think I'd rather a few hours darkness and more heat. That is the one thing I do recall about my week in Blackpool. It was in the height of summer and it was certainly the hottest weather that I had ever experienced.

Hmmm, we get sunshine up here as well. Sometimes we'll gaze up at it in awe as we chip the frost off the car windscreen with our frozen fingers :D

Sunshine? Oh, yes - I remember that.
    I have moved to Derby.
In Norway, we would have Sun in the Summer and Sun and Snow in the Winter. I could just go for a ski and get a tan when I liked.

CZ oh lord....the whole model range deserves to be laughted at.

Least they had a model called Jawa, sounds a bit Star Warsy, that has to be a good point.
  • Northhamton is Paradise compared to the town I live near, Oh Wrexham you are so shitty and sound like rectum.

Northampton - I've driven down the A1/A14/M11 and you don't have to drive through it. Does that count? Or the M1 on the other side but that road seems soooo slow. Mind you, too many b'stard cameras on the A14.

Inverness however, in fact all of the highlands. Fantastic. Except for having to buy my wife Caithness Glass. Shops should be banned , well tat shops anyway.

My dad had a jawa way way back in the 1980's. I was around 4 or 5 years old at that time. I remember that he used to let me ride the bike by sitting me up front on the petrol tank and letting me hold the handlebars (I couldn't reach the handlebars from the seat!). And he used to pretend that it was me taking all those turns and taking over the vehicles on the road. Heh heh... it was good to be a kid - everything was taken care of (in a way)!

When I went to Brighouse Bay a couple of years back, I was impressed with how clear the night sky was, absolutely no light pollution. For the first time in my life I could see satellites going overhead, and the Milky Way looked awesome. It was the first time I'd been to Scotland and it won't be the last.
