You should probably mention on the webpage it's only ?20 - you don't discover that until you click on the PayPal link.

Ooh. Thanks Nick. I'll correct that a bit later on when I get home.
By the way: it was pretty much your website that inspired the idea :) Much thanks.

It's a tried and tested format since WAY before my site - but do I get a free copy anyway? ;)

Oh, and the title has been decided upon:

The ZX Spectrum Book - 1982 to 199x

How long did it take to think of that?

The mating habits of the giant lesser spotted deep sea aardvark, circa 22BC.

It's a very exciting project. Oh yes.

Approximate 8+x years, where x is a positive integer less than 10.
No, seriously. It fit nicely on the keyboard. (See the front cover on zxgoldenyears.com )

Wow - they must be as r@re as a commode fans girlfriend!

Back on topic. I'll be taking a look as well. It was an idea that I played with for a serialisation in ZX Shed. The intention was to then make a book out of it. Never mind eh? Just shows that it was a good idea!

I'll be buying it, that's for sure.
Is there the possibility of producing a set?

Well, that depends on whether enough people pre-order :) (Hint, Hint)

Seriously. I'm not sure if there would be any milage in a set, but if this one sold significantly more than I expect (i.e. I do more than just break even) then it's a distinct possibility.

You mean you didn't read the clearly labelled blurb on www.zxgoldenyears.com? The blurb that says IMPORTANT and READ THIS more than once? :p

If all goes well, it will go to print in September. We need more pre-orders first though.

If it doesn't get printed, you'll get the money back (minus any paypal transaction fees) and a pdf version for your trouble.
I'm leaving the money in escrow until I'm ready to print.

Thanks for the pre-order though, much appreciated.

Still need more though, so if anyone's hanging back, please go ahead and do so...
I know there are enough people in the community here to make a big dent in the printing costs, and I *really* want to have this thing professionally printed.

As I said before, I don't mind not making a profit on this, but I can't afford to *lose* money on it :p

^ What he said :)

Seriously though, the pre-orders are coming in nicely. Much appreciated everyone. If everyone still 'thinking about it' pre-orders then it looks like this thing may get printed after all :)

I love it when a good plan comes together :) All I need now is Bob Geldof as a frontman.

How many pre-orders do you have so far?
• edited August 2005
Is it too late to include any other titles??

I would pre-order today if the missing titles I mentioned were included.. Doomdark's Revenge, Avalon, Dragontorc etc..

You did it for Starglider, correct? :)

About 10% of my goal. Not bad for three days of minimal exposure :) I've set an internal deadline of 60 days from the first pre-order (that's how long the PayPal 'refund' option remains valid for a payment).
I would pre-order today if the missing titles I mentioned were included.. Doomdark's Revenge, Avalon, Dragontorc etc..

Space is *really* limited. I only have 256 pages. I need to fit a 2 page intro/blurb and an index in there.
I'll get Dragontorc in there out of that list.
Of course, if there are enough sales, I'll do a volume 2, then everyone'll be happy ;) (hint hint)
Don't forget Lawn Mower Simulator & Stonkers.
Already got Stonkers.

awesome!

Hmmm, there's a few titles in there I wouldn't include myself, my opinion of course, but would anyone really miss "That's The Spirit", "Panzadrome", "Huncback 2" and "Chuckie Egg 2" for example??

Either way, it'll be a fantastic book, but surely Doomdark's Revenge deserves a place above the games mentioned above??
