Interceptor Micros

I am working on a project, but do not want to get caught up in some nasty copyright lawsuit in the future. I really need permission from "Interceptor Micros" to copy details and characters from one of their games. Their status is "folded" so I am not sure where this leaves the copyright to their stuff? Surely even if a company has folded the game contents and basis still has some sort of protection? Does it revert back to the author? If so, how do I go about getting the Authors details? Their names are listed but obviously no contact details.

    Yes.
Does it revert back to the author?

    No (in general).

This depends on the contracts (if one existed at all; more often than not, none was made in the early days). Sometimes the publisher only had first publication rights, sometimes full rights, sometimes the rights went back to the author after X months of non-sale.
(That's why we aim to ask both the publisher and the authors for permission individually).
