USB Pendrives

edited November 2005 in Chit chat
Hi guys, need to know something about pendrives.

My laptop is USB1.1

If I buy a pendrive that is USB2.0, will it work? I ask because some I've come across have said they're USB2.0 but are compatible with 1.0 and 1.1.

Is this true of all USB2.0 pendrives?

Cheers in advance.

If you use USB 2 stuff on a USB 1 port, it will work but it will just be slower.

You can get a PCMCIA USB 2 adaptor for your laptop if you want the speed of USB 2

Also this could be useful to you if your laptop has Windows 98 installed:

Generic USB mass storage device drivers.

Thanks for the advice Kano. My laptop runs Win2K, so it'll be fine with USB.

    Cheers again.

(As has already been mentioned) USB 2.0 memory sticks work in USB 1.x slots ... you should get a little message from Win telling you of the speed difference ... I have a few of those sticks and have never had any problems usig one or the other. The speed difference isn't all that noticeable ... unless you have many small/irregular files to move then you might notice it.
